Explicit boundary thickening direct forcing immersed boundary method
International Journal of Mechanical SciencesFor simulating the fluid–structure interaction (FSI) problems with moving boundaries and large deformations, the original implicit direct forcing (IDF) immersed boundary method (IBM) has to construct and inverse a large correlation matrix which contains the local relationships between the Lagrangian points and their surrounding Eulerian points ...

Modeling Biofilm Processes Using the Immersed Boundary Method
Journal of Computational Physics, 1996We describe how the complex, dynamic, fluid-structure interaction can be modeled using the immersed boundary method. The method presented includes the coupling of hydrodynamics, substrate reaction, diffusion, and convection, as well as the chemotactic response of swimming microbes.

Turbulent Wall Model for Immersed Boundary Methods
AIAA Journal, 2010The paper describes the development of a wall model to extend the applicability of Immersed Boundary methods to high Reynolds number flows. A two-layer approach, based on a decomposition of the near-wall region, is adopted. An outer region is governed by the compressible RANS equations which are solved numerically by using a classical finite volume ...

Two‐dimensional compact finite difference immersed boundary method
International Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, 2011AbstractWe present a compact finite differences method for the calculation of two‐dimensional viscous flows in biological fluid dynamics applications. This is achieved by using body‐forces that allow for the imposition of boundary conditions in an immersed moving boundary that does not coincide with the computational grid.

Modeling rough stenoses by an immersed-boundary method
Journal of Biomechanics, 2005A pulsatile laminar flow of a viscous, incompressible fluid through a stenosed artery was simulated by an immersed-boundary method. The method allows the use of a simple (rectangular) computational domain in order to simulate a flow around a complex geometry obstacle with surface irregularities (roughness).

A Finite Element Approach to the Immersed Boundary Method
2009The immersed boundary method was introduced by Peskin [31] to study the blood flow in the heart and further applied to many situations where a fluid interacts with an elastic structure. The basic idea is to consider the structure as a part of the fluid where additional forces are applied and additional mass is localized.
