Habituation of the Cold Shock Response May Include a Significant Perceptual Component [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Introduction: Accidental immersion in cold water is a risk factor for many occupations. Habituation to cold-water immersion (CWI) is one practical means of reducing the cold shock response (CSR) on immersion.

The Anticorrosive effect of Ethylene-1,1′-dimethyl-4,4′-bipyridinium iodide on Corrosion of Mild Steel in Acid Solution

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2015
The electrochemical investigations of corrosion behavior of mild steel in sulfuric acid solution in presence and absence of different concentration of Ethylene-1,1′-dimethyl-4,4′-bipyridinium iodide (Edpi) at different temperatures were performed.

Protocol for quantifying miRNA trafficking across the endosomal membrane

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An in vitro protocol measures miRNA uptake into endosomes isolated from mammalian cell extracts, which are free of subcellular contaminants. Performed at 37 °C in the presence of ATP, it ensures the import of single‐stranded miRNA into the endosomal lumen.

Vision science and the visual arts: an enquiry into the science of perception and the art of immersion [PDF]

open access: yes
This research addresses questions surrounding two currently prominent visual art topics. The first revolves around the concept of immersion and perceptions of immersive art, the second concerns current interests in art and science and the practice of art

Avidin is evolutionarily conserved in fish but dispensable for development and resistance against Streptococcus agalactiae in zebrafish

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The presence of biotin‐binding avidin proteins in fish and their biological significance are poorly characterized. We cataloged fish avidins and demonstrate that they are widely present and evolutionarily conserved. We created avd knockout zebrafish and show that zebavidin is dispensable for development and that resistance of avd knockout embryos in ...

GelMA‐based 3D spheroids recapitulate transcriptomic and functional hallmarks of myeloid sarcoma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
GelMA 5% hydrogels support the formation of myeloid leukemia spheroids that recapitulate MS‐specific features, including G1 arrest, apoptosis, and ECM‐driven transcriptomic reprogramming. The 3D model mimicked soft‐tissue‐like stiffness and oxygen conditions, and transcriptomic convergence with primary MS samples confirmed its utility as a preclinical ...

Projections, Pseudo-Stopping Times and the Immersion Property [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Given two filtrations $\mathbb F \subset \mathbb G$, we study under which conditions the $\mathbb F$-optional projection and the $\mathbb F$-dual optional projection coincide for the class of $\mathbb G$-optional processes with integrable variation. It turns out that this property is equivalent to the immersion property for $\mathbb F$ and $\mathbb G$,

Threonine 348 regulates the subcellular localization of PTEN

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Thr348 in the C2 domain is a key contributor to PTEN subcellular localization. The PTEN350 fragment and PTENA4 accumulated in the nucleus, whereas PTENK13R,A4 predominantly localized to the plasma membrane. In contrast, substitution of Thr348 with Asp (T348D) disrupted these characteristic localization patterns, resulting in predominant cytoplasmic ...
