The classical field of neuroimmunology deals with the immune response in infectious, autoimmune-mediated, ischemic, degenerative, traumatic, and neoplastic diseases of the nervous system with a major focus on immune-mediated demyelination. Recently more and more evidence points to a broader interaction between the immune and nervous systems via ...

There is evidence for common sarcoma antigens expressed on a variety of sarcomas of bone and soft tissues. Antibodies and cell-mediated responses to sarcoma-associated if not sarcoma-specific antigens have been demonstrated in tumor-bearing patients. Antibodies have also been found in contacts and parents of affected individuals.

The treatment of cerebral gliomas continues to challenge neurosurgeons and research scientists. The lack of major success with chemotherapy and radiation therapy has given rise to further investigation into the biology of these tumors and host reactions to them.

The immunology of preeclampsia
Seminars in Perinatology, 1999The immune maladaptation hypothesis of preeclampsia is concordant with cytokine-mediated oxidative stress, chronology of endothelial activation, lipid changes, adverse effect of changing partners, and the protective effect of sperm exposure. Genetic factors may involve underlying hereditary thrombophilic disorders and hyperhomocysteinemia, essential ...

Pregnancy is an immunological balancing act in which the mother's immune system has to remain tolerant of paternal major histocompatibility (MHC) antigens and yet maintain normal immune competence for defense against microorganisms. The placenta separates fetal and maternal blood and lymphatic systems and it is fetal trophoblast that plays the major ...

Most of the antigen-specific T and B cells participating in the primary immune response are rapidly eliminated, but some of the cells survive and become long-lived memory cells. There have been a number of recent developments on the features and functions of memory cells.
