Adiabatic approximation on the impact-parameter model

Few-Body Systems, 1991
In this paper we study the impact-parameter model for the scattering of a light particle by two heavy ones in the case when the coupling constants of the potentials acting on the light particle due to the presence of the two heavy ones are the same. We study the asymptotic behavior of the transition probability when the relative velocity of the heavy ...

Impact of local approximations on MP2 vibrational frequencies

Spectrochimica Acta Part A: Molecular and Biomolecular Spectroscopy, 1999
Abstract Equilibrium structures and harmonic vibrational frequencies have been computed using local and conventional second-order Moller–Plesset perturbation theory (MP2) for 16 small and medium size molecules (up to 14 atoms). It is found that the deviations caused by the local approximation are usually negligible, and that the quality of the ...

An Efficient Technique for the Approximate Analysis of Vibro-Impact

Journal of Vibration and Acoustics, 1983
An approximate solution procedure is presented for a class of steady vibro-impact problems consisting of adjacent structures separated by a gap and subjected to harmonic base excitation. The procedure is based on a weighted mean-square linearization technique, and is capable of substantial reduction of computational effort over that required for an ...

Impact of the Radon–Nikodým property on convex approximation properties

Archiv der Mathematik, 2015
A classical result, essentially due to \textit{A. Grothendieck} [``Produits tensoriels topologiques et espaces nucléaires'', Mem. Am. Math. Soc. 16 (1955; Zbl 0123.30301)], states that the approximation property (AP) of a dual space \(X^*\) is metric whenever \(X^*\) or \(X^{**}\) has the Radon-Nikodým property (RNP).

An approximate description of the temporal evolution of a Hertzian impact

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 1989
Abstract The mathematical intractability of the equation of motion governing Hertzian impact means that the approximate analytical solution suggested by Deresiewicz is often useful. Unfortunately, this approximation is widely misquoted. This letter reiterates Deresiewicz’ approximation, states its corollaries, examines its accuracy and suggests a ...

A Glauber-type approximation in impact parameter treatment

Journal of Physics B: Atomic and Molecular Physics, 1975
Within the framework of the semiclassical impact parameter method, a Glauber-type high-energy approximation for rearrangement collisions is formulated. The theory is applied to the capture of an electron by a proton passing through hydrogen and a closed expression for the transition probability is derived.

Impact approximation for line shape in the microwave region

Il Nuovo Cimento, 1964
A quantum-mechanical ≪impact approximation≫ theory is developed for the shape of spectral lines in the microwave region, in the limiting case of high temperatures and low pressures. Effects of the internal structure of the molecules and of their identity are taken into account. Possible correlations in successive collisions are discussed.
