Impact of local approximations on MP2 vibrational frequencies
Spectrochimica Acta Part A: Molecular and Biomolecular Spectroscopy, 1999Abstract Equilibrium structures and harmonic vibrational frequencies have been computed using local and conventional second-order Moller–Plesset perturbation theory (MP2) for 16 small and medium size molecules (up to 14 atoms). It is found that the deviations caused by the local approximation are usually negligible, and that the quality of the ...

Beyond the impact approximation
Physics Letters A, 1969Abstract A simple derivation of the impact approximation is given and a more general binary interaction theory is proposed, which is valid in the region between the impact and the static regime for isolated lines.

Dead space approximation for impact ionization in silicon
Applied Physics Letters, 1996We demonstrate the validity of the dead space approximation for impact ionization in silicon. Monte Carlo simulations are used to obtain realistic ionization probabilities, and the corresponding avalanche gain in constant field structures is computed. We show that the hard-threshold dead space model is in good agreement with a more refined model taking

The impact of excluding common blocks for approximate matching
Computers & Security, 2020Abstract Approximate matching functions allow the identification of similarity (bytewise level) in a very efficient way, by creating and comparing compact representations of objects (a.k.a digests). However, many similarity matches occur due to common data that repeats over many different files and consist of inner structure, header and footer ...

An Approximate Theory of Lateral Impact on Beams
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1955Abstract The approximate theory derived in this paper describes, by means of a “traveling-wave” approach, the behavior of beams under transverse impact. Lateral impact is considered in detail, namely, one in which a section of the beam undergoes a sudden change in velocity or shear force.

European physics impact – to a first approximation
Physics World, 2013Physics-based industries contributed around 14%, or €3800bn, to the total value of the European economy in 2010 – exceeding that of the construction and retail sectors combined – according to a report by the European Physical Society (EPS).

A Glauber-type approximation in impact parameter treatment
Journal of Physics B: Atomic and Molecular Physics, 1975Within the framework of the semiclassical impact parameter method, a Glauber-type high-energy approximation for rearrangement collisions is formulated. The theory is applied to the capture of an electron by a proton passing through hydrogen and a closed expression for the transition probability is derived.

Adiabatic approximation on the impact-parameter model
Few-Body Systems, 1991In this paper we study the impact-parameter model for the scattering of a light particle by two heavy ones in the case when the coupling constants of the potentials acting on the light particle due to the presence of the two heavy ones are the same. We study the asymptotic behavior of the transition probability when the relative velocity of the heavy ...

Impact of the Born-Oppenheimer Approximation on Aerothermodynamics
Journal of Thermophysics and Heat Transfer, 2007The Born-Oppenheimer approximation is a mathematical method in quantum mechanics describing quantification and allocation of the energy associated with molecular internal structure. The macroscopic extrapolation to gas mixtures of the microscopic characterization ensuing from the Born-Oppenheimer approximation consists of the typical energy separation ...
