Recognition of landslides in lunar impact craters [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Remote Sensing, 2017
Landslides have been observed on several planets and minor bodies of the solar System, including the Moon. Notwithstanding different types of slope failures have been studied on the Moon, a detailed lunar landslide inventory is still pending. Undoubtedly, such will be in a benefit for future geological and morphological studies, as well in hazard, risk

Extraction of iron meteorites from the Barringer Meteor Crater based on remote sensing alteration information

open access: yes地质科技通报, 2021
At present, there are more than 190 craters have been confirmed on the earth, and most of the simple impact craters with a diameter of less than 1 km are formed by iron impactor. There is a large amount of iron meteorite material around the impact crater ...

The impact crater at the origin of the Julia family detected with VLT/SPHERE?

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2018
Context. The vast majority of the geophysical and geological constraints (e.g., internal structure, cratering history) for main-belt asteroids have so far been obtained via dedicated interplanetary missions (e.g., ESA Rosetta, NASA Dawn).

Quantitative Analysis of the Sloping Terrain on Al-Biruni’s Floor and Implications for the Cratering Process

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Surface unloading due to impact cratering results in lava filling the crater floor. Elevation differences in the crater floor, a common geological phenomenon on the Moon, represent direct evidence of cratering processes.

The missing large impact craters on Ceres [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
AbstractAsteroids provide fundamental clues to the formation and evolution of planetesimals. Collisional models based on the depletion of the primordial main belt of asteroids predict 10–15 craters >400 km should have formed on Ceres, the largest object between Mars and Jupiter, over the last 4.55 Gyr.

Discovery of the Hailin impact crater in northeast China

open access: yesMatter and Radiation at Extremes
A uniquely shaped impact structure, the Hailin impact crater, has been discovered in northeast China. The crater was formed on a granodiorite hillside and is an oval depression with asymmetric rim height and a maximum diameter of 1360 m.

The Sedimentary records of the Hapcheon impact crater basin in Korea over the past 1.3 Ma

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2023
The Hapcheon impact crater is the only meteorite impact crater identified on the Korean peninsula. However, the morphology of the impact crater and the nature of the meteorite collision are unknown. In this study, we analyzed the sedimentary facies using

Additive Processing of Ti‐17 by Wire Arc Directed Energy Deposition: An Investigation of the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study focuses on processing the titanium alloy Ti‐17 using wire arc directed energy deposition (waDED), with an emphasis on the microstructure and mechanical properties. The waDED typical heat‐affected zone banding is characterized and related to the local mechanical properties.

Optimizing Laser Ablation of Stainless Steels for Volume Removal and Surface Quality Using Burst of Pulses

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the ablation efficiency and surface quality of laser‐treated stainless steel alloys (AISI 304, AISI 420, and AISI 316Ti) using an ultrashort pulsed laser and varying burst parameters (MHz, GHz, and Bi‐burst). Both ablation rates and surface quality parameters are determined, including isotropy surface roughness values, highlighting ...

A steeply-inclined trajectory for the Chicxulub impact

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
The authors here present a 3D model that simulates the formation of the Chicxulub impact crater. Based on asymmetries in the subsurface structure of the Chicxulub crater, the authors diagnose impact angle and direction and suggest a steeply inclined (60°
