VDAC1 Intervention Alleviates Bisphenol AF-Induced Succinate Metabolism Dysregulation and Inflammatory Responses

open access: yesPharmaceuticals
Background/Objectives: Bisphenol AF (BPAF) is a prevalent environmental contaminant with demonstrated metabolic and immunological toxicity. This study aimed to investigate whether VDAC1 (Voltage-Dependent Anion Channel 1) mediates BPAF-induced succinate ...

Impact Beyond Citation: An Introduction to Altmetrics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A fundamental concern for higher education institutions worldwide is improving their efectiveness and efficiency. #is is often expressed as a need to maximise the "impact" of funded research.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Getting a Lift: The Impact of Aerial Cable Cars in La Paz, Bolivia

open access: yesEconomía
This paper studies the effects of aerial cable cars on mode of transport, time use, and employment in the metropolitan area of La Paz, Bolivia. Using an instrumental variables approach, we estimate local average treatment effects of cable car use for ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

CircRNA_1156 Attenuates Neodymium Nitrate-Induced Hepatocyte Ferroptosis by Inhibiting the ACSL4/PKCβII Signaling Pathway

open access: yesAntioxidants
Ferroptosis, a form of regulated cell death driven by lipid peroxidation, has been implicated in the pathogenesis of liver diseases. This study investigates the role of circRNA_1156 in neodymium nitrate (Nd(NO3)3)-induced hepatocyte ferroptosis.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Should we adopt the case report format to report challenges in complicated evidence synthesis? A proposal and illustration of a case report of a complex search strategy for humanitarian interventions

open access: yesCochrane Evidence Synthesis and Methods
Case reports represent a form of evidence in medicine which detail an unusual or novel clinical case in a short, published report, disseminated for the attention of clinical staff. This form of report is not common outside of clinical practice.
