Rubber Impact on 3D Textile Composites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A low velocity impact study of aircraft tire rubber on 3D textile-reinforced composite plates was performed experimentally and numerically. In contrast to regular unidirectional composite laminates, no delaminations occur in such a 3D textile composite ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Experimental and numerical study on axial impact loading of pultruded composite tubes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The application of fibre reinforced composites has been increasing in the area of impact and blast loading of structures. The major advantages of these materials over metals are higher specific energy absorption, more economical, low weight and less ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Research on Mechanical Behaviors of Micro-crystal Muscovite/UHMWPE Composites to Impact Loading

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2016
UHMWPE composites were prepared by hot pressing process with micro-crystal muscovite as reinforced particulates. The mechanical behaviors of composites to impact loading was evaluated by split Hopkinson bar.

Potential atmospheric impact of the Toba Mega‐Eruption ∼71,000 years ago [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
An ∼6‐year long period of volcanic sulfate recorded in the GISP2 ice core about 71,100 ± 5000 years ago may provide detailed information on the atmospheric and climatic impact of the Toba mega‐eruption. Deposition of these aerosols occur at the beginning

Upper Extremity Biomechanics of Children with Spinal Cord Injury during Wheelchair Mobility [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
While much work is being done evaluating the upper extremity joint dynamics of adult manual wheelchair propulsion, limited work has examined the pediatric population of manual wheelchair users.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Modelling Martian dust storms: feedbacks between dust and atmospheric circulation at a hierarchy of scales [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We employ numerical models of Mars at spatial scales ranging from global to a few metres in order to investigate both the impact of increasing dust loading on atmospheric circulations and the role of different atmospheric circulation components on ...
