The repair of foundry defects in steel castings using welding technology [PDF]
Use of welding technology for the repair of steel castings is particularly common in two areas. These include weld surfacing of protrusions that remained incomplete after casting, or filling the surface defects (cavities).

Removing Oxide Layers and Retaining Oxide‐Free Steel Surfaces by Polishing in Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere
In this study, the efficacy of wet mechanical polishing under an oxygen‐free atmosphere for deoxidation and the retention of an oxide‐free steel surface are elucidated using X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The methodology proved successful; however, the results were highly dependent on the preparation of the solvents used to clean the samples after ...

Cause of Impact Strength Decrease of Carbon Steel Welded by Friction Welding
In the other report, tensile, bending, fatigue, and impact strength are tested on S20C and S45C welded by friction welding, and the result is that, under the properly selected welding conditions, they were almost the same as those of base metal except impact strength. Only Charpy impact strength largely descreased.

Low temperature impact toughness of structural steel welds with different welding processes
Influence of welding process and welding consumable on the impact toughness at low temperatures of the Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) and the weld metal in a structural steel weldment was investigated. A comparison of the low temperature impact toughness was made between the welded joints fabricated by Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and Flux Cored Arc ...

Influence of an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere on Diamond‐Single‐Grain Scratching of Ti–6Al–4V
Single‐grain scratching of Ti–6Al–4V is investigated under controlled, oxygen‐free, and ambient atmospheres using a novel experimental setup with in situ high‐speed imaging. The approach enables direct observation of chip formation and adhesion under suppressed oxidation.
