Acute myocarditis according to age: Presentation, management and early outcomes
MIS, multisystem inflammatory syndrome; MRE, myocarditis‐related events (within 30 days included all‐cause death, cardiogenic shock, cardiac arrest, ventricular arrhythmias or complete AV block). Abstract Aims Acute myocarditis (AM) is a rare but severe disease affecting patients of all ages. Large multicentric studies comparing children and adults are

Mechanical Circulatory Support with Impella: Principles, Evidence, and Daily Practice
The Impella (Abiomed, Danvers, MA, USA) microaxial pump is a percutaneous mechanical circulatory support (MCS) that has been shown to increase coronary perfusion, reduce myocardial oxygen demand, and improve peripheral organ perfusion.

The extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) procedure aids in the provision of prolonged cardiopulmonary support, whereas the Impella device (Abiomed, Danvers, MA) is a ventricular assist device that maintains circulation by pumping blood into the ...

Background: In-hospital mortality in acute myocardial infarction-related cardiogenic shock (AMI-CS) remains high. The only adequately powered randomized trial showed no benefit of routine use of the intra-aortic balloon pump in AMI-CS.

Among 668 with cardiogenic shock included in the multicentre prospective Altshock‐2 registry, 299 patients (44.8%) received pre‐admission beta‐blocker therapy. Previous beta‐blocker therapy influenced the early hemodynamic response to vasoactive drugs, but it was not associated with in‐hospital mortality.

Roadmap towards an institutional Impella programme for high‐risk coronary interventions
Coronary artery disease (CAD) and its complications remain the main cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Patients with extensive CAD and multiple comorbidities who require complex, high‐risk percutaneous coronary intervention (HR‐PCI) are at risk ...

Percutaneous Impella Mechanical Circulatory Support Delivery Using Intravascular Lithotripsy
Intravascular lithotripsy (IVL) may be useful to deliver Impella devices in patients with peripheral arterial disease. Twelve patients were treated with peripheral IVL prior to Impella insertion.

Removal of Impella in the Setting of Left Ventricular Thrombus: A Potential Indication for Cerebral Embolic Protection Devices [PDF]
Successful percutaneous mechanical circulatory support (MCS) has been used for acute stabilization of cardiogenic shock (CS). Improved survival outcomes have been observed in patients with CS from an acute myocardial infarction (AMI) who undergo ...
