Material factors in relation to development time in liquid-penetrant inspection. Part 3. Testing of model plates

open access: yesArchives of Metallurgy and Materials, 2017
The paper is the continuation of the previous ones entitled „Material factors in relation to development time in liquid-penetrant inspection. Part 1. Material factors“ and „Material factors in relation to development time in liquid-penetrant inspection ...

Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.

Decision making and imperfection

open access: yes, 2013
Decision making (DM) is ubiquitous in both natural and artificial systems. The decisions made often differ from those recommended by the axiomatically well-grounded normative Bayesian decision theory, in a large part due to limited cognitive and ...

Evaluation of pore sizes in welded joints made in various constructional materials on the basis of penetrant testing by colour method

open access: yesArchives of Metallurgy and Materials, 2017
It has been compared the dimensions of indications obtained in colour liquid-penetrant inspection. The indications arose from simulated pores drilled in test elements. The series of penetrant tests included different structural materials. On the basis of

Influence of Surface Finish on the Tribological Performance of AlTiBN Coatings Deposited on Forming Tools

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Aluminum and nitride coatings are used in industry because they are hard, resist wear, and protect against oxidation. Adding boron can improve friction behavior and other properties. This study tests coatings on surfaces with different finishes. Results show smoother surfaces perform better, while rough ones wear faster, although coatings can reduce ...

Low Cycle Repetitive Loading of Ti‐6Al‐4V‐Epoxy Composite Lattice Structures for Enhanced Energy Dissipation and Damage Tolerance

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Composite Ti–6Al–4V–epoxy lattice structures are additively manufactured and epoxy infiltrated for cyclic loading. At low lattice volume fractions, hybridization produces synergistic gains in stiffness and energy dissipation. At higher volume fractions, synergy diminishes, although composites still exceed metallic lattices in specific energy ...

Imperfect streetscapes. Design climate-adaptive nature-based urban regeneration

open access: yesAnuari d’Arquitectura i Societat
Imperfection, uncertainty and adaptation are intrinsically intertwined concepts that reflect the complex nature of human existence in the Anthropocene. This contribution delves into the nexus of imperfection, uncertainty, and adaptation through the lens ...

From Shear to Sound: Mechanics–Acoustics Mapping of TPMS Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) lattices are mapped across mechanical and acoustic performance, revealing that descriptors validated in compression fail under shear. First‐time comparison with trusses included. A transition from porous to resonance‐driven absorption emerges at 25% density.

Imperfection investigation of composite stiffened fuselage panels for Postbuckling analyses

open access: yes, 2008
Project COCOMAT is an ongoing four year European Commission project aimed at exploiting the large reserve of strength in composite structures through more accurate prediction of collapse. As part of the research program, curved stiffened composite panels

Influence of Geometric Design on Mechanical Performance of Auxetic Metastructure

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Strategic geometric reinforcement transforms auxetic performance. This study evaluates 3D‐printed arrowhead metastructures, revealing that a modified design with local ring reinforcement suppresses premature failure to achieve superior energy absorption and structural efficiency.
