Consolidation Settlement of a Soil with an Impervious Top Surface [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Physics, 1941
An investigation is made of the consolidation settlement for a soil whose top surface is impervious and loaded uniformly on an infinite strip of constant width. The settlement under the load is accompanied by considerable swelling of the unloaded area on both sides of the load.

Mapping Urban Impervious Surface by Fusing Optical and SAR Data at the Decision Level

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2016
The proliferation of impervious surfaces results in a series of environmental issues, such as the decrease of vegetated areas and the aggravation of the urban heat island effects.

Spatiotemporal Dynamics of Soil Impermeability and Its Impact on the Hydrology of An Urban Basin

open access: yesLand, 2022
The presence of impervious surfaces in catchments interferes with the natural process of infiltration, which has a marked influence on the hydrological cycle, affecting the base flow in rivers and increasing the surface runoff and the magnitude of flood ...

The method of intelligent wireless sensor to improve the water permeability of permeable asphalt concrete pavement

open access: yesIET Networks, EarlyView., 2022
Abstract This research aims to study the intelligent wireless sensor to improve the water permeability of permeable asphalt concrete pavement. The water permeability of pavement is extremely important for the traffic environment. This study first briefly introduces the background and significance analysis, and then exemplifies the deployment algorithm ...

Spatio-Temporal Analysis of Impervious Surface Expansion in the Qinhuai River Basin, China, 1988–2017

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2021
Impervious surfaces are key indicators for urbanization monitoring and watershed degradation assessment over space and time. However, most empirical studies only extracted impervious surface from spatial, temporal or spectral perspectives, paying less ...

IMPERVIOUS SURFACES IN URBAN WATERSHEDS

open access: yesProceedings of the Water Environment Federation, 2005
Urbanization causes profound changes in the hydrology of the area, specifically the timing of the runoff, the water use, runoff volume and flow rates, channel complexity, and especially pollution in receiving waters. Water quality problems increase with increasing imperviousness of the watershed. Impervious areas cause increased runoff and contaminated

Runoff From Impervious Surfaces

open access: yesJournal of Hydraulic Research, 1964
Abstract : Numerical procedures form a basis for predicting the runoff from impervious surfaces which accords satisfactorily with the results of extensive field studies undertaken by the Corps of Engineers around 1950. The equations of continuity and of steady, uniform flow are sufficient if information is also available as to the surface resistance ...
