COMBINING SPECTRAL AND TEXTURE FEATURES USING RANDOM FOREST ALGORITHM: EXTRACTING IMPERVIOUS SURFACE AREA IN WUHAN [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2016
Impervious surface area (ISA) is one of the most important indicators of urban environments. At present, based on multi-resolution remote sensing images, numerous approaches have been proposed to extract impervious surface, using statistical estimation ...

‘Using anuran community diversity and Pseudacris crucifer to predict landscape quality across a land use gradient'

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
As human‐modified landscape and climate changes proliferate, maintaining biodiversity and understanding the function and quality of available habitat is imperative. As anurans (frogs/toads) such as Pseudacris crucifer, can be an indicator species of habitat quality and ecosystem productivity, studying the anuran community in a mixed‐land use region ...

Is Nighttime Light Primarily From Human Settlements? Exploring the Spatial Relationship Between NTL and Impervious Surface in Zhejiang Province, China

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing
Over the past three decades, China’s rapid urbanization has led to significant population concentration and economic growth, effectively captured by nighttime light (NTL) remote sensing.

Urbanisation and human activities influence the co‐occurrence of red squirrels Sciurus vulgaris and meso‐carnivores in Berlin, Germany

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Urban expansion is a major driver of habitat fragmentation, shrinking wildlife habitat, and restricting wildlife movements and activity patterns. In this novel environment, species must adapt to the new composition of wildlife communities. For example, red squirrels Sciurus vulgaris are commonly found in urban environments, while their potential ...

A Comparative Study of various Indices for extraction urban impervious surface of Landsat 8 OLI

open access: yesForum Geografi, 2019
Impervious surface is one of the major land cover types of urban and suburban environment. Conversion of rural landscapes and vegetation area to urban and suburban land use is directly related to the increase of the impervious surface area.

Expansion of Urban Impervious Surfaces in Xining City Based on GEE and Landsat Time Series Data

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Urban expansion is often studied in large cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, while scant attention is paid to smaller cities such as Xining.

Build-up and characterisation of pollutants on urban impervious surfaces

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 2018
Abstract This paper presents the results of the investigation of pollutant build-up on impervious surfaces of a parking lot in Belgrade, Serbia during the summer months. Contaminant build-up was found to be greater on asphalt surfaces directly exposed to vehicular traffic than on concrete walkways.

Urban bats show dietary flexibility in aquatic arthropod consumption at urban and rural waterbodies

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Urban waterbodies are critical for biodiversity and provide feeding grounds for insectivorous bats. Yet, how urbanisation affects bats' food choices at urban waterbodies and the role of emergent aquatic arthropods remain poorly understood. We compared the diet of three urban bat species – Vespadelus vulturnus, Chalinolobus gouldii, and Myotis macropus –

Nocturnal neighbors: exploring residents' perceptions of urban wildlife related to animal traits identified by camera traps and literature

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Wildlife in urban areas is often a source of conflict, yet relatively few efforts have been directed toward fostering coexistence in these human‐dominated landscapes. While previous research has focused on socio‐demographic factors influencing perceptions of wildlife, the role of specific animal traits in shaping acceptance remains underexplored.

Impervious surfaces – landscapes, images, writings

open access: yes, 2022
No talho da palavra, a abertura. Percorremos, em superfícies, paisagens, imagens, escritas. Suas circunstâncias gráficas - insustentáveis matérias de outras escutas -, endereçam o fugidio e o dissonante em gesto e pensamento. Ensaiamos, aqui, algumas aproximações improváveis entre elas e experimentamos modos outros de narrar. Palavras-chave: Paisagens;
