Compositon of Tantalum Nitride Thin Films Grown by Low-Energy Nitrogen Implantation: A Factor Analysis Study of the Ta 4f XPS Core Level [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Tantalum nitride thin films have been grown by in situ nitrogen implantation of metallic tantalum at room temperature over the energy range of 0.5-5keV.

Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

Podocalyxin promotes the formation of compact and chemoresistant cancer spheroids in high grade serous carcinoma

open access: yesScientific Reports
High grade serous carcinoma (HGSC) metastasises primarily intraperitoneally via cancer spheroids. Podocalyxin (PODXL), an anti-adhesive transmembrane protein, has been reported to promote cancer survival against chemotherapy, however its role in HGSC ...

Cochlear Implantation in a Patient with Implanted Trigeminus Stimulator—Clinical Considerations for Using Two Different Electrical Stimulators in the Same Patient and Our Results

open access: yesJournal of Otorhinolaryngology, Hearing and Balance Medicine
Implantation of two electrical stimulators of different cranial nerves in one patient is rare. We report the case of a forty-seven-year-old patient already implanted with a trigeminus nerve stimulator.

Dynamic Precipitation during High‐Pressure Torsion of a Magnesium–Manganese Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An ultrafine‐grained alloy is produced by high‐pressure torsion of solutionized Mg–1.35 wt% Mn. Precipitation of nanometer‐scale Mn particles during deformation provides pinning sites. This prevents the formation of a bimodal grain structure and results in a finer grain size than for pure Mg.

The ExPAND Study: A Prospective Association Study into Endometriosis-Associated Pain, Neurosteroid Synthesis, and TRPM3

open access: yesBiomolecules
Endometriosis-associated pain has debilitating effects on the quality of life of patients. Despite its high prevalence in reproductive-aged women, the pathophysiology is still unknown, impeding the development of targeted treatment approaches.

Engineered arrays of NV color centers in diamond based on implantation of CN- molecules through nanoapertures

open access: yes, 2010
We report a versatile method to engineer arrays of nitrogen-vacancy (NV) color centers in dia- mond at the nanoscale. The defects were produced in parallel by ion implantation through 80 nm diameter apertures patterned using electron beam lithography in ...

Understanding the Effect of Resistance Temperature Detector Temperature Controllers on Microstructural Alignment in Magnetic Freeze Casting

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The effect of temperature controllers that are commonly used in freeze‐casting is investigated in this work. Temperature controllers are observed to generate a voltage in the slurry. Microstructural alignment and ultimate compressive strength data show this voltage to interfere with the ability to align the microstructure using magnetic fields ...
