Symbolic Regression and Multi‐Objective Optimization of the Flory–Huggins Interaction Parameter for Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.

A people's Entente Cordiale? The role of implicit attitude in the relationship between English-French contact, levels of categorization, and explicit intergroup attitudes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The Common Ingroup Identity Model (CIIM) holds that four levels of categorization (the interpersonal, intergroup, and particularly, superordinate group, and dual identity levels) mediate the intergroup contact-bias relationship.

DigiChrom: A Domain Ontology for Semantic Representation of Trivalent Chromium Platings and Its Large Language Model‐Based Alignment With Multiple Mid‐Level Ontologies

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Digitalizing electroplating requires both domain knowledge and interoperability. This work introduces PlatOn, a domain ontology for trivalent chromium plating and coating characterization, and a hybrid pipeline that aligns it to a mid‐level reference ontology by combining eight similarity metrics with language model reasoning. Expert‐validated mappings

Increasing The Awareness of Implicit Biases

open access: yes, 2023
Diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace can have an impact on staff engagement, communication and patient outcomes. These are driven by multiple variations of biases, including implicit biases.

The impact of self-control on aggressive behavior: the chained mediating role of hostile attribution bias and positive/negative implicit affect

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology
ObjectiveThis study examined the direct impact of self-control on aggressive behavior and the mediating roles of hostile attribution bias and both positive and negative implicit affect.MethodsA questionnaire survey was conducted among 545 vocational ...

OntOMat: Toward Ontology‐Based Product and Process Design Engineering and Optimization Solutions Fueling Circular Value Chains

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The OntOMat ontology establishes a structured framework for polymer matrix fiber reinforced composite materials, integrating manufacturing processes, characterization methods, and multiscale design through the VDI/VDE 3682 formalized process description standard.

Implicit bias, (global) white ignorance, and bad faith: The problem of whiteness and anti‐black racism

open access: yes, 2019
In Britain, policy-makers tend to view racism as a social attitude rather than an institutional/structural phenomenon. Not until the publication of the MacPherson Report (1999) was the idea of ‘institutional racism’ officially recognised.

Implicit Attitudes to Female Body Shape in Spanish Women With High and Low Body Dissatisfaction

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2019
Research on implicit attitudes to body image has grown substantially in recent years. The extant evidence reveals an implicit weight bias in the general population that has generally been interpreted in terms of anti-fat attitudes. However, research with

Non‐Additive Criteria Assessment in Sustainability Evaluation of High Entropy Alloys: A Toxicity‐Weighted Framework

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Sustainability assessment requires methodologies that appropriately distinguish between additive and non‐additive material properties. A toxicity‐weighted scoring system is developed and applied that accounts for the disproportionate influence of highly toxic constituents through nonlinear weighting functions, providing more realistic estimates than ...
