The Orange Order: A Religious Institution or Implicit Religious Spinning?

open access: yes, 2015
Implicit Religion has long been utilised within academia, and religious studies in particular, as an analytical tool with which to examine and critique commonly held conceptions and iterations of what “religion” is or could be.

Advancing Lithium–Oxygen Batteries: Pioneering Cathode Catalyst Innovation and Artificial Intelligence‐Driven Design Paradigms

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review summarizes the principles and challenges of nonaqueous lithium‐oxygen batteries and recent advances in cathode catalysts, including carbon‐based materials, metals, oxides, sulfides, nitrides, carbides, and redox mediators. It highlights emerging design strategies and artificial intelligence‐driven approaches, emphasizing data‐assisted ...

A fully implicit second order method for viscous free surface Stokes flow – application to glacier simulations [PDF]

open access: yesGeoscientific Model Development
We present a fully implicit finite element method for viscous free surface Stokes problems which are common in glaciology and geodynamics. Standard fully implicit iterative solvers diverge for such problems when using large time steps. We address this by

Soft Hardware, Flowing Software: Reconfigurable Microfluidics for Adaptable Chemical Computation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A reconfigurable microfluidic platform based on soft, photo‐printable, and chemically erasable hydrogel structures printed and erased in situ is used to control flow routing, mixing, chemical patterning, and even chemical computing. Using hardware to control chemical computations decouples logic function from molecular composition, demonstrated via ...

Embedded Implicit Stand-ins for Animated Meshes: a Case of Hybrid Modelling

open access: yes, 2008
In this paper we address shape modelling problems, encountered in computer animation and computer games development that are difficult to solve just using polygonal meshes.

An ALE ESFEM for solving PDEs on evolving surfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Numerical methods for approximating the solution of partial differential equations on evolving hypersurfaces using surface finite elements on evolving triangulated surfaces are presented.

Synchronized-tracing of implicit surfaces

open access: yesCoRR, 2023
Implicit surfaces are known for their ability to represent smooth objects of arbitrary topology thanks to hierarchical combinations of primitives using a structure called a blobtree. We present a new tile-based rendering pipeline well suited for modeling scenarios, i.e., no preprocessing is required when primitive parameters are updated.

Phase Diagrams Enable Solid‐State Battery Design

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Batteries are non‐equilibrium devices with inherent thermodynamic driving forces to react at interfaces, regardless of kinetics or operating conditions. Chemical potential mismatches across interfaces are dissipated via interfacial reactions. In this work, it is illustrated how phase diagrams and chemical potential maps predict degradation pathways but

Implicit Large-Eddy Simulations of Wall-Bounded Turbulent Flows. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The paper presents application of Implicit Large Eddy Simulation(ILES)to wall- bounded turbulent flows. A characteristics-based scheme in conjunction with total variation diminishing(TVD)Runge-Kutta time stepping and slope-limiting variants, for the com ...

Three-Dimensional Geological Modeling Method Based on Potential Vector Fields

open access: yesApplied Sciences
With the development of 3D geological modeling, implicit modeling methods have gradually gained popularity. However, existing potential field methods cannot directly represent unconformable geological interfaces.
