Nanothermometry in Living Cells: Physical Limits, Conceptual and Material Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Heat and temperature are fundamental to life. When nanothermometers began probing regions as small as a living cell, they triggered controversial claims of large intracellular temperature gradients. We review physical constraints energy‐conservation, entropy production, thermodynamic fluctuations, and molecular dynamics.

Subspace Trail Cryptanalysis and its Applications to AES

open access: yesIACR Transactions on Symmetric Cryptology, 2017
We introduce subspace trail cryptanalysis, a generalization of invariant subspace cryptanalysis. With this more generic treatment of subspaces we do no longer rely on specific choices of round constants or subkeys, and the resulting method is as such a ...

Capturing information on curves and surfaces from their projected images

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics for Industry, 2020
Obtaining complete information about the shape of an object by looking at it from a single direction is impossible in general. In this paper, we theoretically study obtaining differential geometric information of an object from orthogonal projections in ...

Global Representation of the Fine Structure Constant and its Variation

open access: yes, 2005
The fine structure constant, alpha, is shown to be proportional to the ratio of the quanta of electric and magnetic flux of force of the electron, and provides a new representation, which is global across all unit systems.

Color Routing and Beam Steering of Single‐Molecule Emission with a Spherical Silicon Nanoantenna

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We experimentally demonstrate broadband directional emission from single molecules using a single spherical silicon nanoparticle assembled via DNA origami. By varying nanoparticle (NP) size and emitter position, we achieve unidirectional emission, beam steering, and color routing at the nanoscale, revealing modal interference as the underlying ...

New Yoyo Tricks with AES-based Permutations

open access: yesIACR Transactions on Symmetric Cryptology, 2018
In Asiacrypt 2017, Rønjom et al. reported some interesting generic properties of SPNs, leading to what they call the Yoyo trick, and applied it to find the most efficient distinguishers on AES.

Conventional versus single-ladder-splitting contributions to double parton scattering production of two quarkonia, two Higgs bosons and $c \bar c c \bar c$

open access: yes, 2014
The double parton distributions (dPDF), both conventional and those corresponding to parton splitting, are calculated and compared for different two-parton combinations. The conventional and splitting dPDFs have very similar shape in $x_1$ and $x_2$.

Impossible Differential Cryptanalysis on DVB-CSA

open access: yesKSII Transactions on Internet and Information Systems, 2016
The Digital Video Broadcasting-Common Scrambling Algorithm is an ETSI-designated algorithm designed for protecting MPEG-2 signal streams, and it is universally used. Its structure is a typical hybrid symmetric cipher which contains stream part and block part within a symmetric cipher, although the entropy is 64 bits, there haven’t any effective ...

In Situ 3D Bioprinting: Impact of Cross‐Linking on the Adhesive Properties of Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In situ 3D bioprinting enables the direct deposition of cell‐laden, adhesive biomaterials for on‐site tissue regeneration. This review provides a comprehensive overview of how cross‐linking influences the bioadhesive properties of hydrogels used in 3D bioprinting, highlighting cross‐linking triggers, bioadhesion mechanisms, polymer interpenetration ...
