Generalized basic probability assignments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Dempster-Shafer theory allows to construct belief functions from (precise) basic probability assignments. The present paper extends this idea substantially.

Hydroxychloroquine Associated With Lower Glomerular Filtration Rate Decline in Lupus Nephritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) protects kidney function in lupus nephritis (LN) by preventing flares, yet some cohort studies show no significant benefit in kidney function with HCQ. Clarifying these conflicting findings by showing early and long‐term benefits of HCQ on kidney function preservation is critical.

Imprecise Markov Models for Scalable and Robust Performance Evaluation of Flexi-Grid Spectrum Allocation Policies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The possibility of flexibly assigning spectrum resources with channels of different sizes greatly improves the spectral efficiency of optical networks, but can also lead to unwanted spectrum fragmentation. We study this problem in a scenario where traffic

Peptide Sequencing With Single Acid Resolution Using a Sub‐Nanometer Diameter Pore

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
To sequence a single molecule of Aβ1−42–sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), the aggregate is forced through a sub‐nanopore 0.4 nm in diameter spanning a 4.0 nm thick membrane. The figure is a visual molecular dynamics (VMD) snapshot depicting the translocation of Aβ1−42–SDS through the pore; only the peptide, the SDS, the Na+ (yellow/green) and Cl− (cyan ...

Strictly frequentist imprecise probability

open access: yesInternational Journal of Approximate Reasoning
Strict frequentism defines probability as the limiting relative frequency in an infinite sequence. What if the limit does not exist? We present a broader theory, which is applicable also to random phenomena that exhibit diverging relative frequencies.

OPTRACE: Optical Imaging–Guided Transplantation and Tracking of Cells in the Mouse Brain

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
OPTRACE establishes an optical, two‐step platform for intracerebral cell therapy. Transparent glass pipettes enable real‐time, image‐guided delivery, while multiplex genetic labeling with two‐photon and bioluminescence readouts supports longitudinal single‐cell tracking and host–graft dynamics.

System Reliability Assessment with Imprecise Probabilities

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
The exact statistical characteristics of some components may be unavailable because of the limited sample information in practical engineering. One challenge that system reliability analysis faces is dealing with limited sample sizes, which introduces ...

cuteHap: Haplotype‐Aware Structural Variant Detection in Phased Long‐Read Sequencing Data

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
cuteHap is a haplotype‐aware structural variant detection method designed for phased long‐read sequencing. By employing self‐adaptive clustering and credibility‐prioritized beam search algorithms, cuteHap generates accurate haplotype‐resolved calls and outperforms state‐of‐the‐art tools.

Command line completion: an illustration of learning and decision making using the imprecise Dirichlet model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
A method of command line completion based on probabilistic models is described. The method supplements the existing deterministic ones. The probabilistic models are developed within the context of imprecise probabilities.

Excluding joint probabilities from quantum theory

open access: yes, 2018
Quantum theory does not provide a unique definition for the joint probability of two non-commuting observables, which is the next important question after the Born's probability for a single observable.
