Current Sheet Structure in an Inductive-Impulsive Plasma Accelerator

AIAA Journal, 1971
Probe and laser light-scattering measurements of electron density have been made in the current sheet of a pulsed inductive accelerator. The discharge consists of a thin flat disk of pure je current. The only current carriers are electrons. The gas is ionized and swept up into a 4 mm thick current sheet.

Cable-fault location by impulse-current method

Proceedings of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, 1975
The paper presents a new approach to cable-fault location based on the use of high-voltage impulse generators. It is shown that, when an impulse generator is connected onto a faulty cable, the waveform of the generator output current can be used to determine the position of a fault.

Impulse current withstand capability of coaxial cables in high current applications

2008 IEEE International Power Modulators and High-Voltage Conference, 2008
A coaxial medium voltage cable has been tested as a means to connect the high current pulse generator to the load coil in magnetoforming applications, at single pulses of ca. 100 mus duration, and at amplitudes between 30 and 140 kA. The radial deformation (expansion) of the cable was detected with a high-resolution, high-speed camera as a function of ...

Impulsivity in personality disorders

Current Opinion in Psychiatry, 2018
Impulsivity is considered a trans-diagnostic feature of many mental disorders, yet our understanding of the concept and approaches to measurement have evolved significantly with advances in neuroimaging. This review will provide an overview of impulsivity as it is currently understood, its association with personality disorder and implications for ...

On the development of an impulse current generator

Proceedings of the International Conference on Electromagnetic Interference and Compatibility '99 (IEEE Cat. No. 99TH 8487), 2002
Lightning is known to be the single largest cause of outages on power systems. Protection against lightning invariably consists in employing surge arresters. An important performance criterion for an arrester is the residual voltage. The measurement of residual voltage employs an impulse current generator. This work deals with design and development of

A Complementary Current Impulse Commutated Thyristor Inverter

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 1983
A complementary current impulse commutated thyristor inverter is discussed in this paper. In this configuration, the two pairs of diagonally opposite located thyristors, which comprise a phase inverter, are alternately utilized as commutation and as main thyristors.

Magnetic Field Annihilation of Impulsive Current Sheets

1976
Abstract : The report presents the results achieved to date from an experimental study of impulsive plasma acceleration in an inductive device. The geometry of the magnetic fields produced in this machine is such that plasma acceleration by means of a hydromagnetic wave, that converts field energy to kinetic energy, is expected to occur. The purpose of

Measuring high impulse current distribution: application to electromagnetic launchers

IEEE Instrumentation & Measurement Magazine, 2013
The study of high-current transients is involved in several research fields, such as high-power electronics, nuclear fusion, applied superconductivity, and electromagnetic launch. Measuring such high currents is not always an easy task because of the critical environment with high magnetic fields that may induce high voltages on the measurement ...

Conversion of capacitor energy into current impulses

1965
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the methods for conversion of capacitor energy into current impulses. The conversion of capacitor discharges into current impulses must generally satisfy one of two requirements. It may be important to obtain a steep buildup in the current impulse, for example, a rise to 10,000 amp in 1/10 μ-sec and, thus, 1011

Impulse-Current Generation by the Bispin: Factors Determining the Peak Current

Russian Microelectronics, 2003
A study of the bispin is presented. The bispin is a semiconductor device that can convert incident light into a relaxation self-sustaining oscillation of electric current in the form of sharply peaked impulses, thus making both a photodetector and an electrical-pulse generator.
