How “Green” is Your Functional Material? Assessing Environmental Impacts of Multi‐Step Synthetic Protocols in Material Sciences at Various Technology Levels

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Environmental Synthesis Radar (ESR) evaluates the environmental impact of (early‐stage) multi‐step chemical syntheses, providing a holistic view by using 18 midpoint impact categories. Unlike conventional life‐cycle assessment (LCA) approaches, ESR reveals three complementary metrics: overall impact Vtotal, environmental hotspots VEF, and critical ...

Framework Flexibility on Water Sorption and Transport in ZIF‐90: Insights from Neural‐Network Molecular Dynamics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
A DeepMD‐based molecular dynamics framework is developed to investigate water adsorption in ZIF‐90, explicitly accounting for framework flexibility. Results show that atomistic flexibility significantly influences adsorption energetics, diffusion, and structural correlations, yielding nearly constant heat of adsorption and enhanced mobility.

Smart Electrospun Nanofibers for Controlled Oil‐Water Separation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Stimuli‐responsive electrospun nanofibers are reviewed as advanced platforms for controlled oil/water separation. The effects of surface wettability, porous structure, and external stimuli, including pH, temperature, gas, and light, on separation performance are discussed.

Engineering Ultra‐Low Fe or Ni Loading in Polymer Derived SiCN(O) Fibre Mats: Exploring the Performance towards Alkaline OER

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Polymer‐derived SiCN(O) fibre mats enable anchoring of ultra‐low amounts of transition metals for efficient alkaline oxygen evolution. The distinct behaviour of Fe‐ and Ni‐based fibres highlights the importance of metal phase and support interactions in tailoring catalytic behaviour.
