When people dehumanize others, they think of them as both human and subhuman at the same time, and as violating the categorical distinctions that are supposed to underpin the natural order.

Impurity-impurity interactions in dilute alloys

Hyperfine Interactions, 1990
The interaction between impurities of two solute elements in metal hosts leads to a non-random distribution of impurity atoms among the lattice sites. Experimental studies of this distribution provide quantitative information on the energy involved in the formation of an individual impurity-impurity pair.

Impurities in snowpacks

Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, 1989
Snow can be involved in the acquisition, transport, storage and release of atmospheric impurities. Because it can store impurities for periods of time ranging from hours to millenia, it provides a medium for monitoring atmospheric impurities for a wide range of time scales. In most climates, snow is involved in the precipitation process.
