Expanding the role of impurity spectroscopy for investigating the physics of high-Z dissipative divertors

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2017
New techniques that attempt to more fully exploit spectroscopic diagnostics in the divertor and pedestal region during highly dissipative scenarios are demonstrated using experimental results from recent low-Z seeding experiments on Alcator C-Mod, JET ...

Characterization of the ion pedestal in low and high collisionality plasmas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The high confinement mode (H-mode) is a very important regime for future fusion devices. In this regime, the global confinement is increased and a pedestal structure is developed in the profiles.

Colloidal Heterostructures Enable Interfacial Transport of Immiscible Molecules in Printable Organohydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Multiphase printable organohydrogels with tunable microstructures are developed to control molecular transport pathways for immiscible cargo. The tortuosity and domain size of the colloidal phases are tuned by adjusting temperature and shear during processing, which enables the tailoring of diffusion kinetics due to different transport pathways.

Experimental conditions to suppress edge localised modes by magnetic perturbations in the ASDEX Upgrade tokamak

open access: yes, 2018
Access conditions for full suppression of Edge Localised Modes (ELMs) by Magnetic Perturbations (MP) in low density high confinement mode (H-mode) plasmas are studied in the ASDEX Upgrade tokamak.

Multiphysics‐Driven Assembly of Biomimetic Vesicles

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Artificial extracellular vesicles, derived from cell membranes, are manufactured using a multiphysics‐integrated microfluidic platform that combines nanoknife membrane rupture, herringbone chaotic mixing, and acoustothermal modulation. This standardizable workflow enables the predictable control of vesicle formation and therapeutic loading, while ...

Stiff to Soft: A Protein‐Based Buffer Layer for Improving the Long‐Term Performance of Microneedle Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
To enhance stability and long‐term biocompatibility of wearable microneedle sensors, a crosslinking‐recombination bovine serum albumin material is used as a buffer layer coated on microneedle sensors. This coating layer possesses a unique stiff‐to‐soft transition function balancing the mechanical stiffness desired for puncturing and soft required for ...

Interpretive modeling of tungsten divertor leakage during experiments with neon gas seeding

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
Many existing and future tokamaks with tungsten divertors operate, or will operate, with low- Z impurity seeding, but the direct effect of these seeded impurities on tungsten Scrape-off-Layer (SOL) transport has not been explored in detail.
