Divertor power spreading in DEMO reactor by impurity seeding
Fusion Engineering and Design, 2016Abstract Numerical simulation with COREDIV code of DEMO H-mode discharges (tungsten divertor and wall) are performed considering the influence of seeding impurities with different atomic numbers: Ne, Ar and Kr on the DEMO scenarios. The approach is based on integrated numerical modeling using the COREDIV code, which self-consistently solves radial ...

An impurity seeded radiative mantle for ITER
Nuclear Fusion, 1995Self-consistent, coupled transport/MHD/scrape-off layer (SOL) divertor calculations indicate that a stable, radiating mantle can be maintained just inside the separatrix by iron impurity injection into the SOL in an ITER EDA model. The power flux to the divertor plate is reduced thereby by an order of magnitude or more.

Neutron-Detected Tomography of Impurity-Seeded Superfluid Helium
Physical Review Letters, 2004We describe a neutron radiography technique that can be used to map the distribution of 3He impurities in liquid 4He, providing direct and quantitative access to underlying transport processes. Images reflecting finite normal- and superfluid-component 4He velocity fields are presented.

Slow Thermal Waves in Impurity Seeded Radiative Plasmas
Physical Review Letters, 1996Linear and nonlinear wave propagation in optically thin, impurity seeded radiative plasmas is studied in slab geometry. Taking into account the thermal force that acts on impurity ions leads to a new type of slightly damped or slightly unstable subsonic waves that propagate within limited ranges of temperature.

Influence of seeded impurities on the fusion reactor operation
Czechoslovak Journal of Physics, 2004In order to study the influence of seeded impurities on ITER like reactor operation the COREDIV code has been extended to include the transport of several sputtered and/or injected impurities. In the COREDIV code the core plasma is treated in the frame of 1D radial transport model whereas in the edge the 2D multifluid code EPIT is used.

Impurity Seeding with Dust Injection in Tokamak Edge Plasmas
Contributions to Plasma Physics, 2012AbstractImpurity seeding of tokamak edge plasmas in the form of dust is modeled using the recently coupled DUSTT/UEDGE code. The effects on edge plasma performance due to lithium and carbon dust continuously injected at different poloidal locations in NSTX and ITER are modeled.

Influence of impurity seeding on plasma burning scenarios for ITER
Fusion Engineering and Design, 2016Abstract ITER expects to produce fusion power of about 0.5GW when operating with tungsten (W) divertor and beryllium (Be) wall. The influx of W from divertor can have significant influence on the discharge performance. This work describes predictive integrated numerical modeling of ITER discharges using the COREDIV code, which self-consistently ...

Radiated power distributions in impurity-seeded plasmas in LHD
Journal of Nuclear Materials, 2015Abstract In LHD, impurity seeding has been performed to enhance the radiative cooling in the edge region. Neon, nitrogen and argon were seeded by gas puffing, and the behaviour of those impurities in the plasma was investigated with the innovative diagnostic method.

Impurity seeded radiative power exhaust solutions for ITER
Nuclear Fusion, 1996The injection of impurities into the scrape-off layer (SOL) to stimulate radiative power exhaust from the mantle and SOL/divertor of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) is investigated. Intermediate Z impurities (e.g. argon to krypton) are able to radiate more than two thirds of the plasma heating power, without significant ...

Impurity-seeded plasma experiments on JET
2003Scaling to larger tokamaks of high confinement plasmas with radiating edges, induced by impurities, is being studied through internationally collaborative experiments on JET. In campaigns till the end of 2000, three different regimes have been explored. A small number of limiter L-mode discharges seeded with neon have most closely repeated the approach
