Financial Distress and Its Determinants in Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective To quantify the degree of financial distress and identify its determinants in adults with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) given the frequent prolonged use of expensive disease‐modifying therapies. Methods We identified adults enrolled in the FORWARD databank with either RA or noninflammatory musculoskeletal disease (NIMSKD) completing the ...

Testing a Personalized Approach to Chronic Low Back Pain: A Randomized Controlled Trial in Older Veterans

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We aimed to test the efficacy of personalized treatment of older veterans with chronic low back pain (CLBP) delivered by Aging Back Clinics (ABCs) as compared with usual care (UC). Methods Two hundred ninety‐nine veterans aged 65 to 89 with CLBP from three Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers underwent baseline testing, randomization to ABC ...

Imputation of spatial air quality data using gis-spline and the index of agreement in sparse urban monitoring networks

open access: yesRevista Facultad de Ingeniería Universidad de Antioquia, 2015
This paper presents a procedure to address the lack of spatial air quality data in urban areas, based on the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial interpolation techniques as an alternative to conventional methods of statistical ...

The Renal Activity Index for Lupus Identifies Active Renal Disease and Treatment Response in Adult Patients With Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and Lupus Nephritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We evaluated the ability of the Renal Activity Index for Lupus (RAIL) to discriminate active lupus nephritis (LN) in adult patients with active systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and differentiate LN treatment response. Methods Urine samples from adults with biopsy‐proven active class III and IV LN from TULIP‐LN (active LN group ...

Sarilumab in Polyarticular‐Course Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis: Dose‐Finding and One‐Year Analysis of a Phase 2b, Open‐Label, Multicenter Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective This study assessed sarilumab in treating patients with polyarticular‐course juvenile idiopathic arthritis (pcJIA). Methods This phase 2b, open‐label study (NCT02776735) consisted of three sequential parts (each with a core‐treatment and extension‐phase). During part 1, three doses were assessed in two weight groups (Group A/B: ≥30–60 kg/≥10–<

Statistical Inference for Chi-square Statistics or F-Statistics Based on Multiple Imputation

open access: yes
Missing data is a common issue in medical, psychiatry, and social studies. In literature, Multiple Imputation (MI) was proposed to multiply impute datasets and combine analysis results from imputed datasets for statistical inference using Rubin's rule. However, Rubin's rule only works for combined inference on statistical tests with point and variance ...

Machine Learning with Statistical Imputation for Predicting Drug Approval

open access: yesHarvard Data Science Review, 2019
We apply machine-learning techniques to predict drug approvals using drug-development and clinical-trial data from 2003 to 2015 involving several thousand drug-indication pairs with over 140 features across 15 disease groups. To deal with missing data, we use imputation methods that allow us to fully exploit the entire dataset, the largest of its kind.
