Using wearable devices to analyze the everyday gait differences between runners and nonrunners

open access: yesJournal of Intelligent Medicine, EarlyView.
Through the analysis of wearable devices and machine learning, it is found for the first time that the gait of marathon runners is significantly different from that of ordinary people. This shows that long‐term long‐distance running training can optimize the walking mode or help reduce the risk of falling.

Tunable Virtual IMU Frame by Weighted Averaging of Multiple Non-Collocated IMUs

open access: yes2025 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA)
We present a new method to combine several rigidly connected but physically separated IMUs through a weighted average into a single virtual IMU (VIMU). This has the benefits of (i) reducing process noise through averaging, and (ii) allowing for tuning the location of the VIMU. The VIMU can be placed to be coincident with, for example, a camera frame or

Robust Stride Detector from Ankle-Mounted Inertial Sensors for Pedestrian Navigation and Activity Recognition with Machine Learning Approaches

open access: yesSensors, 2019
In this paper, a stride detector algorithm combined with a technique inspired by zero velocity update (ZUPT) is proposed to reconstruct the trajectory of a pedestrian from an ankle-mounted inertial device.

RECiPROsody: A Study Protocol for Investigating Movement and Prosodic Synchrony as Embodied Markers of Relational Attunement in Gestalt Psychotherapy

open access: yesThe Journal of Humanistic Counseling, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Nonverbal synchrony supports therapeutic alliance, yet its role in Gestalt psychotherapy remains underexplored. This manuscript presents the RECiPROsody study protocol, designed to investigate how multimodal interpersonal synchrony between therapists and clients relates to embodied attunement and therapeutic outcomes.

OWP-IMU: An RSS-Based Optical Wireless and IMU Indoor Positioning Dataset

open access: yesIEEE Robotics and Automation Letters
Received signal strength (RSS)-based optical wireless positioning (OWP) systems are becoming popular for indoor localization because they are low-cost and accurate. However, few open-source datasets are available to test and analyze RSS-based OWP systems. In this paper, we collected RSS values at a sampling frequency of 27 Hz, inertial measurement unit

Inertial‐Based LQG Control: A New Look at Inverted‐Pendulum Stabilization

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mechanical System Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Linear‐quadratic Gaussian (LQG) control is a well‐established method for optimal control through state estimation, particularly in stabilizing an inverted pendulum on a cart. In standard laboratory setups, sensor redundancy enables direct measurement of configuration variables using displacement sensors and rotary encoders. However, in outdoor
