Frugivory‐mediated trophic cascades: how apex predators can shape the recruitment of a fleshy‐fruited tree

open access: yesOikos, Volume 2026, Issue 3, March 2026.
The recovery of large carnivores offers unique opportunities to study their cascading impacts on plant population dynamics. Medium‐sized carnivores, both prey and seed dispersers, are suppressed by apex predators, indirectly increasing seed‐eating rodent's populations and potentially altering plant establishment.

Characterizing the Signals and Backgrounds in a Low Earth Orbiting Cherenkov Detector, and Background Mitigation Strategies

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, Volume 131, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Cherenkov detectors have been used in space for decades to measure Galactic Cosmic Rays (GCRs), Solar Energetic Particles (SEPs) and trapped particles. We present proof‐of‐concept GRAS/Geant4 simulations to both show that a cubic fused silica Cherenkov detector with SiPM in LEO has a good sensitivity to SEP and GCR protons as a function of cut‐

Arctic High Resolution Sea‐Ice Forecast System on a Heterogeneous Many‐Core Computing Platform

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, Volume 18, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract This study develops an ensemble forecast system for Arctic sea ice with a horizontal resolution of ∼2 km to resolve linear kinematic features (LKFs). The system is designed to run operationally on the Sunway computing architecture, which employs many‐core processors with a distinct programming logic.
