Flexible Ceramic-Based Integrated Sensor for Temperature and Pressure Detection Under High Temperatures

open access: yesIEEE Journal of the Electron Devices Society
In this letter, a flexible integrated temperature and pressure dual-parameter sensor is realized by mechanically grinding negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermal ceramics and high temperature piezoelectric ceramics, respectively.

The C‐terminal region of KIF26B is indispensable for nephron progenitor condensation and kidney formation in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KIF26B plays an important role in kidney development. We engineered mice lacking the C‐terminal region of KIF26B and found severe kidney defects, including bilateral renal agenesis, similar to full Kif26b knockout mice. The mutation disrupted nephron progenitor condensation and reduced Gdnf‐Wnt11 signaling, showing that the KIF26B C‐terminal region is ...

Dynamic characteristics and hazard analysis of the high-altitude landslide based on multi-source data and numerical simulation

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science
The Bailong River Basin is located on the eastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, where tectonic activities are intense and the geological environment is complex. It is one of the high-incidence areas of high-altitude landslides in China.

From energy provision to protein synthesis: Tunnelling nanotubes as mediators of intercellular metabolic cooperation in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.

In Situ Techniques for Monitoring Electrochromism

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Education, 2010
This experiment employs current technology to enhance and extend existing lab content. The basic principles of spectroscopic and electroanalytical techniques and their use in determining material properties are covered in some detail in many undergraduate chemistry programs.

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

In-situ monitoring of slope mass-wasting: examples from the Pyrenees [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Slope mass-wasting triggered by rainfall is a complex phenomenon and representsan important hazard in most mountainous regions. In-situ monitoring of the involved processes is difficult due to harsh environmental conditions and the fact of remote ...

Is an Apple an Orange? A Large Language Model Benchmark for Candidate Term Extraction and Subclass Decisions Against Upper Ontologies in Engineering and Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Building machine‐readable vocabularies for materials science is slow, expert‐driven work. This study benchmarks 13 large language models on two of its first steps: finding candidate terms in engineering articles and deciding where they belong in a class hierarchy.

In-Situ Monitoring of Mechanochemical MOF Formation by NMR Relaxation Time Correlation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
In this paper, we present a new approach to monitoring mechanochemical transformations, based on a magnetic resonance method in which relaxation time correlation maps are used to track the formation of the popular metal-organic framework (MOF) materials ...
