TEM and Synchrotron X-ray Study of the Evolution of Phases Formed During Bonding of IN718/Al/IN718 Couples by TLPB

open access: yesMetallurgical and Materials Transactions A, 2021
This study investigates the microstructure across the interconnection zone of IN718/Al/IN718 couples obtained by the Transient Liquid Phase Bonding (TLPB) process at temperatures ranging from 800 °C to 1000 °C. The crystal structure and the chemical composition of the phases formed, including the AlNi intermetallic, were evaluated using TEM-EDS.

Influence of Vanadium on the Microstructure of IN718 Alloy by Laser Cladding [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials, 2019
A deleterious Laves phase forms in the solidified structure of Inconel 718 (IN718) alloy during laser cladding. However, effective removal methods have not yet been identified. In this study, we first added the IN718 alloy cladding layers with a trace amount of vanadium (V, 0.066 wt.%).

Spraycast-X IN718 Processing Benefits

open access: yesSuperalloys 718, 625, 706 and Various Derivatives (1997), 1997
The Spraycast-X@ process has been developed by Howmet, and verified on a wide range of nickel-base superalloys, including IN718, for manufacturing thick wall (-3”) structures for jet engine rings and cases. This process yields a material and product that is clean and eliminates ring rolling.
