Modulating Reversible Zinc‐Ion Storage via Interfacial Water Regulation Enabled by Pyrophosphate Layer on MoS2

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
This study shows pyrophosphate (PPI)‐modified MoS2 alters interfacial Zn2+ storage via coordinated Zn2+ binding, disrupts [Zn(H2O)6]2+ solvation sheaths, and boosts capacity/structural stability. PPI also stabilizes active interfacial water, with H+‐derived acidic microenvironments inhibiting water dissociation to enhance cycling durability.

Biomass‐Coupled HER System: A Strategy for Sustainable and Low‐Cost Hydrogen Production

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
Pine wood is carbonized into a hierarchically porous biochar anode that undergoes carbon oxidation reaction, replacing the oxygen evolution reaction in alkaline water electrolysis. The resulting biomass‐coupled HER system converts water into hydrogen at low cell voltages, enabling low‐cost H2 production from renewable carbon resources. ABSTRACT Biomass‐

Synergetic Heterophase and Selective Defect Engineering of Nano Multicomponent Alloys for Rechargeable Zn–Air Batteries

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
An fcc/bcc with defects (bcc‐d) MCA is designed by utilizing the interplay between heterophase and selective defect engineering and exhibits excellent electrocatalytic activity suitable for high‐performance zinc–air batteries. The synergistic catalysis of the fcc/bcc‐d breaks the universal linear‐scaling relationships of adsorbed multi‐intermediates ...

Infinite Functional Versatility, Formidable Limits: Evaluating Gallium‐Based Liquid Metals in Rechargeable Batteries

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
Beyond the hype surrounding the self‐healing properties of gallium‐based liquid metals (Ga‐LMs), this perspective critically examines their functional roles in metal‐ion batteries, highlighting both their underlying merits and the often‐overlooked challenges, including non‐representative design and testing configurations, performance overestimations ...
