In-Situ and Ex-Situ Measurement of Stresses in Environmental Barrier Coatings
Volume 2: Ceramics and Ceramic Composites; Coal, Biomass, Hydrogen, and Alternative FuelsAbstract Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) offer a step improvement in temperature capability over the current best high temperature super alloys for gas turbine applications. Silicon Carbide (SiC) based CMCs react with water vapor at temperature and therefore need an Environmental Barrier Coating (EBC) for protection against the water ...

The in situ measurement of the intrinsic stresses in nanofilms
Nanotechnologies in Russia, 2010A method for the in situ measurement of intrinsic stresses in nanofilms is described. It is based on measuring the cantilever beam deflection during the vacuum deposition of thin films. Magnetron sputter deposition is used in this work. In order to determine the cantilever beam deflection, the capacity of a capacitor composed of a stationary plate ...

A Comprehensive Approach to in Situ Stress Measurement
Advances in X-ray Analysis, 1985Recent developments in position sensitive detectors (PSD's), solid state power and computer technologies make it possible to design accurate instruments for in-situ stress measurement. Such instruments require compromises in the interests of portability, size and speed stiich may limit accuracy and/or versatility.

17. Measurement of in situ Stress
1987Publisher Summary The state of stress in situ is the result of the superposition of a number of stress fields. This chapter describes the major methods of in situ stress measurement. They have been arranged in three groups: surface, near-surface, and deep methods. Surface measurements of in situ stress are those conducted directly on the free surface

Analysis ofin-situ stress measurements
Geotechnical and Geological Engineering, 1997In order to analysein-situ stress measurements two approaches are discussed. These are eigen-value analysis and statistical techniques such as Arnold, Fisher and Bingham distributions. When these techniques are applied to field data, the results are quite consistent.

In-Situ Stress Measurements During Drilling
Journal of Petroleum Technology, 1986Summary This paper describes the results of six microfracturing experiments in a gas well in south Texas. The experiments were conducted in open hole and during the drilling operations. Microfracturing consisted of pumping very small volumes of drilling mud (tens of gallons) at very low rates (3 to 30 gal/min [189 ...

Hydraulic fracturing for in situ stress measurement
Journal of Mining Science, 2016It is experimentally found that shut-in pressure conforms with the fracture initiation pressure if the fracture surfaces are uniformly loaded by fluid. The article shows that equaling minimal stress and shut-in pressure in local fractures results in overestimates.

In-situ stress measurements of sputtered multilayers
SPIE Proceedings, 2010The mechanical stress induced during the growth of thin films and multilayers is a critical parameter for the fabrication of reflective x-ray optical elements. Strong stress can cause deformation of the optical surface, de-lamination of the respective coating, or even breaking of the underlying substrate. In order to characterize stress in a growing

In Situ Measurement of Stresses in Thin Films
MRS Proceedings, 1991ABSTRACTIn this paper the results of experiments are summarized in which the internal stress (i.e. force per unit width) of thin films was measured in situ under UHV conditions with a bending beam apparatus. It is demonstrated that characteristic types of stress vs. thickness curves can be correlated with different growth modes (i.e.
