In-vitro fertilization; the ethics

Human Reproduction, 1986
This paper is addressed to practitioners. It seeks to acquaint them with 'ethical' arguments against their work which, because they are simple and plausible, persuade many people. These arguments are briefly rehearsed and as briefly examined. A more positive ethics of in-vitro fertilization is presented which seeks to respect (a) what is known in the ...

Smoking and in-vitro fertilization

Human Reproduction, 1986
One-hundred and fourteen patients who underwent IVF treatment were asked about their smoking habits. Their rhodanide (SCN) concentrations were then estimated in serum and follicular fluid. SCN has been identified as an indicator for the amount of cigarettes smoked.

In Vitro Fertilization in Mice

Cold Spring Harbor Protocols, 2018
The success of in vitro fertilization is strongly influenced by genetic background, handling of sperm and oocytes, and culture conditions. This protocol promotes enhanced rates of fertilization by using preincubation medium for sperm containing methyl-β-cyclodextrin (MBCD) and fertilization medium with high calcium and reduced glutathione (GSH).

In Vitro Fertilization in Mice

Cold Spring Harbor Protocols, 2017
In vitro fertilization (IVF) involves fertilization of mature oocytes with capacitated sperm in a tissue culture dish. This technique can generate large numbers of cleavage-stage embryos without using a significant number of single-caged stud males for mating.

Anesthesia for in-vitro fertilization

Current Opinion in Anaesthesiology, 2005
To review the most recent literature on anesthesia for in-vitro fertilization.Very limited new information has become available in the review period. Propofol seems to be an acceptable option for anesthesia/sedation during in-vitro fertilization but more research is necessary to definitively establish its safety.

Fertilization abnormalities in human in-vitro fertilization

Human Reproduction, 1992
Fertilization abnormalities (premature chromosome condensation of spermatozoa (PCC), triploidy, haploidy) were analysed in order to determine their origin. PCC occurs in 9% of unfertilized oocytes and seems to be the consequence of a failure of oocyte activation, leading to the continuing presence of cytoplasmic chromosome-condensing factors, causing ...

The Ethics of In Vitro Fertilization

Primary Care: Clinics in Office Practice, 1986
Advances in medicine's ability to assist reproduction in those afflicted with infertility raise numerous ethical questions both for potential recipients of the techniques and for society as a whole. Society must decide what level of resources should be committed to the treatment of infertility in light of the fact that many children are not readily ...

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a broad term used to describe the process of obtaining an egg and uniting it with sperm in a laboratory setting, and subsequently placing the fertilized egg into the uterus in hopes of achieving a live birth. In terms of anesthesiology, IVF primarily means oocyte retrieval.

In Vitro Fertilization

Women & Health, 1988
This paper presents an overview of ethical issues concerning IVF. The first section evaluates specific ethical issues; the medical understanding of IVF, the development of the procedure, the risks of the procedure, and issues related to consent. The second part of the paper reviews broader issues: the allocation of resources, who receives the benefits,
