Llama and sheep ruminal fluid digestive capacity by in vitro gas production technique

Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, 2022
AbstractBACKGROUNDThe in vitro gas production technique has been used to evaluate forage fermentation kinetics. However, individual and animal species variation can change fermentation patterns due to differences in ruminal environment and microbiota. The aim was to verify whether rumen inoculum (RI) of llama had superior intrinsic digestion capacity ...

Comparison of caecal and faeces fermentation characteristics of ostrich byin vitrogas production technique

Acta Agriculturae Scandinavica, Section A - Animal Science, 2011
Abstract To compare caecal and faecal fermentation characteristics, ostrich caecal content (CI) and faeces (FI) were used as inocula for an in vitro gas production trial in which four substrates (dehydrated alfalfa, alfalfa hay, maize and a commercial concentrate) were tested.

Factors affecting the amount of indirect gas produced by thein vitrogas production technique

BSAP Occasional Publication, 1998
When a food is ingested by a ruminant animal, the carbohydrate fraction of the food is fermented by the rumen micro-organisms to produce gas (predominantly carbon dioxide and methane) as well as volatile fatty acids (VFA). The gas production technique simulates this fermentation process and provides an estimate of both the rate and extent of ...

Comparison of sulfur hexafluoride tracer technique, rumen simulation technique and in vitro gas production techniques for methane production from ruminant feeds

International Congress Series, 2006
Abstract Studies carried out to compare sulfur hexafluoride tracer technique (SF 6 ), rumen simulation technique (RUSITEC) with in vitro gas production technique (IVGPT) for estimation of methane (CH 4 ) production from ruminant feeds. Five diets viz., alfalfa hay (D 1 ), corn silage and soybean meal (SBM) (91:9, D 2 ), Italian ryegrass hay and SBM ...

Nutritional Composition of Composite Diets Using In Vitro Gas Production Technique

Nigerian Journal of Animal Production
Waste from rumen, poultry and cassava processing when not transformed are sources of environmental pollution in most cities and rural communities in developing nations. This study was therefore carried out to investigate the nutritive value of composite diets comprising of rumen waste (RW), poultry waste (PW) and cassava peels (CP) using in vitro gas ...

Development of the in vitro gas production technique to estimate protein degradation in the rumen

2007
The purpose of this thesis was to adapt the in vitro gas production technique (IVGPT) to estimate the rumen degradation profile of feed protein and to investigate the effect of sample preparation on the estimated kinetics of silage carbohydrate and protein degradation in the rumen.

The Possibility of Use of Feces Instead of Rumen Fluid in the in Vitro Gas Production Technique

2017

Use of in vitro gas production technique in the evaluation of fungal treated maize husk

2017
Maize husk is potential feed resources for ruminants if properly harnessed. Its uses is however limited by high fibre content and low digestibility which can be enhanced by fungal treatment. Maize Husk was degraded for 21 days using three different fungi: Pleurotus tuber-regium, Pleurotus ostreatus and Pleurotus pulmonarius.
