In Vitro Analysis of Cotton Pollen Germination
Agronomy Journal, 2004Crops with economically valuable reproductive structures show the greatest negative discrepancy between average and record yields. To alleviate environmental stress–related yield reductions, a better understanding of the relative sensitivities of pollen development, dehiscence, pollen germination, pollen tube growth, fertilization, and subsequent boll ...

Pollen Germination and Pollen Tube Growth in Vitro
1992Pollen germination and pollen tube growth are prerequisites for fertilization and seed development. Because of the involvement of the pistillate tissue in nature, physiologic and biochemical investigations on pollen germination and pollen tube growth in vivo are rather difficult. In vitro germination techniques have therefore been used extensively on a

In vitro germination of western larch pollen
Canadian Journal of Forest Research, 2000We have been able to successfully germinate western larch (Larix occidentalis Nutt.) pollen in vitro. Pollen was rehydrated at 100% RH for 16 h before being sprinkled on semisolid and liquid media. The basic medium contained Brewbaker and Kwack minerals diluted 1:10 and was supplemented with polyethylene glycol 4000 and three different concentrations ...

Extremely Low Doses of Arsenic Affect in vitro Pollen Germination
Complementary Medicine Research, 2013<b><i>Introduction: </i></b>This study deals with the effects of extremely low doses or high dilutions of pharmacological compounds on in vitro pollen germination of kiwifruit (<i>Actinidia deliciosa</i>). <b><i>Material and Methods: </i></b>The biological efficacy of As2

Germination in vitro of ryegrass pollen grains
Euphytica, 1973Pollen grains of diploid and tetraploid Italian, perennial and hybrid ryegrass (Lolium spp.) germinated on 20% sucrose solution with 10 ppm each of CaCl2, H3BO3 and EDTA. Pollen tubes emerged within 2–3 minutes after sowing and completed full growth within 1 1/2 hours. The tube elongation showed the expected linear growth rate. The tubes of the haploid

The ability to germinate fresh pollen on a “defined” medium offers opportunities for a number of areas of research. Applications, such as agrichemical assessment, gametophyte selection, etc., have been reported by a number of investigators over the last 25 years or more.

A NEW MEDIUM FOR POLLEN GERMINATION IN VITRO
Acta Botanica Neerlandica, 1982SUMMARY Poly-ethylene glycol (PEG)-400 was found to be superior to sucrose as the major component in media for the germination of Petunia hybrida pollen. PEG promotes pollen tube growth considerably more than sucrose. Pollen tubes grown on PEG resemble the in vivo tubes much more than those grown on sucrose.

In vitro germination of pepper pollen in liquid medium
Scientia Horticulturae, 1994Abstract A liquid medium containing 5–10% sucrose, 0.1 mM boric acid and 1 mM calcium chloride supported a germination percentage close to 50% and the best tube growth for in vitro germination of Capsicum annuum pollen (F1 hybrid ‘Latino’). The use of sucrose gave better results in terms of germination and/or tube growth than other sugars or ...

In Vitro Germination of Ornithogalum Caudatum Pollen
Transactions of the Kansas Academy of Science (1903-), 1962Ornithogalum caudatum Ait. (Fig. 1) is a member of the Liliaceae family, and occasionally grown as a window or greenhouse plant. It originated in South Africa (Bailey 1916). This research attempted to evaluate characteristics of the plant's pollen and its potential value for future studies in pollen physiology.
