Specific inactivation of glucose metabolism from eucaryotic cells by pentalenolactone

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1982
Pentalenolactone, an antibiotic related to the class of the sesquiterpene-lactones and produced by the strain Streptomyces arenae Tü-469, inhibits specifically the glucose metabolism by inactivation of the enzyme glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (D-glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate: NAD oxidoreductase (phosphorylating) ED 1.2.1.1.2).

Midazolam oxidation by cytochrome P450 3A4 and active-site mutants: an evaluation of multiple binding sites and of the metabolic pathway that leads to enzyme inactivation.

Molecular Pharmacology, 2002
Midazolam (MDZ) oxidation by recombinant CYP3A4 purified from Escherichia coli and 30 mutants generated at 15 different substrate recognition site positions has been studied to determine the role of individual residues in regioselectivity and to ...

Catecholamine Metabolism: Biosynthesis, Storage, Release, and Inactivation

1977
Basic to an understanding of the pathophysiology of pheochromocytoma is a knowledge of the biosynthesis and inactivation of the catecholamines. The term “catecholamine” refers to any compound composed of a catechol nucleus (a benzene ring with two adjacent hydroxyl groups) and an aminecontaining side chain; these substances are of low molecular weight.

Effect of cobalamin inactivation on folate metabolism of leukemic cells

Leukemia Research, 1988
Exposure to nitrous oxide inactivates the cobalamin coenzyme of methionine synthetase, an essential enzyme in folate metabolism. Hemopoietic cells are especially dependent on the function of cobalamin for the folate-dependent synthesis of thymidylate (dTMP).

SELECTIVE INACTIVATION OF MICROSOMAL DRUG METABOLIZING PROTEINS BY VISIBLE LIGHT

Photochemistry and Photobiology, 1981
Abstract— Rat liver microsomes treated with heterochromatic visible light (λ > 400 nm) and O2 showed a preferential inactivation of NADPH‐cytochrome P450 reductase and cytochrome P450, proteins involved in drug metabolism. Cytochrome P450 destruction correlates with lipid peroxidation; both are oxygen dependent and affected to the same extent by ...

Rapid metabolic inactivation of tipredane, a structurally novel topical steroid

Journal of Steroid Biochemistry, 1988
[3H]Tipredane ([3H]TP), [3H]triamcinolone acetonide ([ 3H]TAAC), [3H]hydrocortisone ([3H]HC), and [3H]betamethasone-17 alpha-valerate ([3H]BMV), each at a concentration of 1 microM, were separately incubated with the 10,000 g supernatant fraction of the liver and skin homogenates of humans, rats and mice (BMV was studied only in human liver ...

Metabolism of enkephalins and the inactivating neuropeptidase concept

Trends in Neurosciences, 1983
Abstract The potentiation of the effects of enkephalin on target cells by selective peptidase inhibitors raises the possibility that peptidergic signals are turned off not only by diffusion but also by hydrolysis by ‘neuropeptidases'. Two recently identified peptidases are likely to play such a role in enkephalinergic neurotransmission, and their ...
