Inappropriate shocks following recent generator replacement
Herzschrittmachertherapie + Elektrophysiologie, 2023In a 64-year-old male patient with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) for secondary prevention of sudden cardiac death, a shock occurred some months after generator exchange and downgrade to a single-chamber system. Careful analysis of the stored electrogram revealed a rare cause that could be confirmed at the time of operative revision.

Introduction: Inappropriate implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) therapy carries a low but relevant risk of ventricular proarrhythmia. In the present case, the extremely rare event of a fatal arrhythmia caused by inappropriate therapy is reported.

Biventricular Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator and Inappropriate Shocks
Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, 2003Biventricular ICD and Inappropriate Shocks. A 53‐year‐old man with nonischemic cardiomyopathy underwent implantation of a biventricular implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) for symptomatic ventricular tachycardia. He received five shocks while attempting to exercise, 48 hours after implantation.

Is Inappropriate Implantable Defibrillator Shock Therapy Predictable?
Journal of Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiology, 2003To identify implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) patients who are at risk of receiving inappropriate shock.Inappropriate ICD shock, usually from atrial fibrillation (AF) or sinus tachycardia (ST), is a common problem. We hypothesized that clinical variables would predict which patients with single chamber ICDs would be more likely to receive ...

Appropriate Result from an Inappropriate ICD Shock
Pacing and Clinical Electrophysiology, 2006A case of inappropriate detection of an ungrounded external AC current by an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) is reported. The resultant ICD shock dislodged the patient from the electrical source, thus preventing injury or electrocution.

Inappropriate defibrillator shocks and mortality
Heart, 2013Despite the established survival benefits of implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD) in patients with ischaemic cardiomyopathy and other forms of cardiomyopathies, a major limitation of this technology remains the delivery of inappropriate shocks for reasons other than life-threatening ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation ...

Inappropriate ICD Shocks Caused by External Electrical Noise
New England Journal of Medicine, 2009To the Editor: Because of the growing number of patients worldwide who are receiving implantable cardioverter–defibrillators (ICDs)1 and the increasing number of indications for their use, physicia...

Inappropriate shocks in the subcutaneous ICD: Incidence, predictors and management
International Journal of Cardiology, 2015The entirely subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (S-ICD) eliminates the need for transvenous leads, and therefore has the potential to improve lead-longevity and reduce lead-related complications. The S-ICD has a morphology-based sensing algorithm of which inappropriate shocks have been reported. We analyzed the incidence, predictors and
