Inappropriate Shock Therapy in a Heart Failure Defibrillator
Pacing and Clinical Electrophysiology, 2001BETTS, T.R., et al.: Inappropriate Shock Therapy in a Heart Failure Defibrillator. A 63‐year‐old male with dilated cardiomyopathy underwent implantation of a “heart failure” defibrillator capable of biventricular pacing. He received an inappropriate shock 5 hours after the procedure.

Methods of minimizing inappropriate implantable cardioverter-defibrillator shocks
Current Cardiology Reports, 2000As more and more patients receive complex implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), profound knowledge about the incidence of inappropriate device therapy, the reasons it happens, and the possibilities for prevention is crucial. In this article, the most important prevention algorithms incorporated in current ICD models and their advantages and ...

Causes and Prevention of Inappropriate Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator Shocks
Cardiac Electrophysiology Clinics, 2018Use of implantable cardioverter-defibrillators as a primary prevention therapy has been shown to reduce mortality in patients after cardiac arrest and also with left ventricular systolic dysfunction. Yet, inappropriate shocks are variably reported and associated with a reduction in quality of life.

[Inappropriate ICD shocks after collision with a pole].
Nederlands tijdschrift voor geneeskunde, 2016A 60-year-old man experienced inappropriate ICD shocks after collision with a pole. Cine-fluoroscopy demonstrated lead fracture of the proximal lead, which was not so clearly visible on the chest radiograph. He underwent lead extraction and implantation of a new ICD system.

Shock therapy. How donut magnets can suspend inappropriate ICD shocks.
JEMS : a journal of emergency medical services, 2008EMS crews encounter implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) daily, but these encounters rarely involve ICDs firing repeatedly on an awake, alert and understandably frightened individual. But that's exactly what happened when an EMS crew from Cottage Grove, Minn., responded to a man with a known heart condition who reported that his implantable ...
