Primary structure of apolipoprotein A-II from inbred mouse strain BALB/c.
The primary structure of apolipoprotein A-II (apoA-II) isolated from the plasma high density lipoprotein (HDL) fraction of the inbred mouse strain BALB/c is described in this work. The complete 78 amino acid protein sequence was determined by proteolytic

Genetic improvement of the herbivorous blunt snout bream (Megalobrama amblycephala) [PDF]
Selection experiments with the herbivorous blunt snout bream or Wuchang bream (Megalobrama amblycephala) were started in 1985. Mass selection for size and length/depth ratio resulted in a significant increase in growth and better shape, while inbreeding ...

ABSTRACT Seasonal influenza is prevalent every winter, and influenza vaccines are used to safeguard public health. As the influenza vaccines are produced in embryonated hen eggs using vaccine viruses recommended by the World Health Organization each year based on the epidemic situation, it is important, from the perspective of public health, to ...

Detection and Mapping of Quantitative Trait Loci that Determine Responsiveness [PDF]
Exposure to 70% N2O evokes a robust antinociceptive effect in C57BL/6 (B6) but not in DBA/2 (D2) inbred mice. This study was conducted to identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) in the mouse genome that might determine responsiveness to N2O.

An intronless version of the white pupae (wp) gene was engineered to restore the wild type brown puparium color in white pupae phenotype mutants of the Mediterranean fruit fly, Ceratitis capitata. Functionality of the minimal gene version (mini‐wp) was verified in vivo, as one copy of mini‐wp successfully restored the wild type phenotype in homozygous ...

Bone Loss and TLR4 Signals Contribute Independently to B Lineage Aging
The prevailing view is that the age‐related decline of B lymphopoiesis is due to increased inhibitory signals in the marrow environment. Our data show that the loss of salutary ones, such as those from bone, primarily drives the loss of B cell progenitors with age.

Transposing from the laboratory to the classroom to generate authentic research experiences for undergraduates. [PDF]
Large lecture classes and standardized laboratory exercises are characteristic of introductory biology courses. Previous research has found that these courses do not adequately convey the process of scientific research and the excitement of discovery ...

Enhancer Rewiring Orchestrates Inflammation and Loss of Cell Identity During Muscle Stem Cell Aging
A comprehensive multi‐omic profiling of murine muscle stem cells across three ages and both sexes reveals extensive enhancer and 3D genome rewiring, concomitant with increased inflammation, lineage drift, loss of quiescence, and reduced myogenic potential.
