A Perspective on Incentive Design: Challenges and Opportunities

Annual Review of Control, Robotics, and Autonomous Systems, 2019
The increasingly tight coupling between humans and system operations in domains ranging from intelligent infrastructure to e-commerce has led to a challenging new class of problems founded on a well-established area of research: incentive design. There is a clear need for a new tool kit for designing mechanisms that help coordinate self-interested ...

Incentive design for adaptive agents

International Joint Conference on Autonomous Agents and Multiagent Systems, 2011
We consider a setting in which a principal seeks to induce an adaptive agent to select a target action by providing incentives on one or more actions. The agent maintains a belief about the value for each action---which may update based on experience---and selects at each time step the action with the maximal sum of value and associated incentive.

Incentives of Design

Terra artis. Art and Design, 2023

Incentives for Contract Designers

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2021
This paper examines the optimal provision of incentives for contract designers. A principal hires an agent to draft a contract that is incomplete because the ex-ante specified design might not be appropriate ex-post. The degree of contract incompleteness is endogenously determined by the effort exerted by the agent, who can manipulate the principal's ...

Designing Incentives Regulation for the Environment

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2008
This chapter provides an overview of legal and policy instruments that can be used to provide potential polluters with incentives for pollution abatement. The traditional law and economics literature as well as environmental economics are used to show how liability rules, safety regulation, environmental taxation, and emission trading all have specific

Global Incentive Constraints in Auction Design

Econometrica, 1984
In two recent papers \textit{S. A. Matthews} [J. Econ. Theory 30, 370-400 (1983; Zbl 0512.90017)] and \textit{E. Maskin} and \textit{J. Riley} [Econmetrica 52, 1473-1518 (1984; Zbl 0605.90043)] have examined the design of optimal auctions when the buyers are risk averse. These follow an earlier study by \textit{R. B. Myerson} [Math. Oper. Res. 6, 58-73

Designing Incentives for P2P Multimedia Sharing

2011 IEEE Global Telecommunications Conference - GLOBECOM 2011, 2011
The design of incentive schemes for P2P multimedia sharing networks is challenging due to the unique features exhibited by such networks: large populations of anonymous peers interacting infrequently, asymmetric interests of peers, network errors, and multiple concurrent transactions.

On the Design of Incentive Mechanisms in Environmental Policy

Environmental & Resource Economics, 1993
The theory of incentives in environmental policy is concerned with the problem an environmental authority faces, when its own objectives do not coincide with those of the polluters. Negative externalities in production and consumption degrade the quality of the environment in an excessive way.
