open access: yesPolicy Studies Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Defined by threat, urgency, and uncertainty, crises produce opportunities for government leaders to exploit and create meaning around their policy decisions in such unstable circumstances. In narrating their preferred policy solutions, one of the tools governments can use is relying on evidence‐based information.

Miedo e incertidumbre

open access: yesCrítica (México D. F. En línea), 1994
Fear and Uncertainty discusses Robert Gordon’s thesis according to which fear is an epistemic —as opposed to factive— emotion inasmuch as S’s fearing p requires S’s being uncertain whether p or ∼p, and also requires that the uncertainty implicit in fearing be of a non-deliberative or ‘external’ kind. Hansberg argues against both parts of this ...

How does the use of evidence in policy narratives change during crises? A comparative study of New York City's pandemic school shutdowns

open access: yesReview of Policy Research, EarlyView.
Abstract Narratives play an essential role in fast‐paced policy making that occurs during crises. The COVID‐19 pandemic brought numerous disruptions of normality, including school closures, which were intensely debated in narratives by many policy actors. Two shutdowns of New York City's public school system affected over 1.1 million students.

PhyBaSE: A Bayesian structural equation model approach to causal inference in phylogenetic comparative analyses

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, Page 1136-1148, June 2025.
Abstract One of the main limitations of phylogenetic comparative analyses is that associations between traits can only be interpreted as correlations. Here, we present a novel Bayesian structural equation model (PhyBaSE) which allows us to disentangle direct from indirect relationships among variables to propose potential causal hypotheses while ...
