Thin-Film Solar Energy Absorber Structure for Window Coatings for Self-Sufficient Futuristic Buildings

open access: yesMicromachines, 2023
Energy-efficient buildings are a new demand in the current era. In this paper, we present a novel metamaterial design aimed at achieving efficient solar energy absorption through a periodic MMA structure composed of a W-GaAs-W. The proposed structure can

Metamaterials for Enhanced Polarization Conversion in Plasmonic Excitation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Surface plasmons efficient excitation is typically expected to be strongly constrained to transverse magnetic (TM) polarized incidence, as demonstrated so far, due to its intrinsic TM polarization.

Evaluation of Incident Wave Energy in Flume Tests

open access: yesCoastal Engineering 1986, 1986
A two dimensional model study, carried out for a structure in a flume using irregular waves, presents the problem of determining the relationship between the total incident wave energy attacking the structure and its response to that attack (displacements, forces, etc.) in various sea states, The total incident wave energy can be evaluated indirectly ...

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Broadband with enhanced oblique incidence metamaterial absorber

open access: yesMaterials Research Express, 2020
In this paper, we present a broadband metamaterial absorber with excellent performances of oblique incidence and polarization insensitivity for enhancing the absorptance of electromagnetic waves at oblique incidence.

Relationship Between Knowledge and the Incidence of Chronic Energy Deficiency in Pregnant Women

open access: yesJournal of Public Health and Pharmacy, 2023
Background: The prevalence of Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) in pregnant women based on the results of the 2018 Basic Health Research is 17.3%, this result is quite high so that efforts to prevent SEZ must be carried out early. Methods: This research

Quantitative proteomic analysis reveals different characteristics of bladder cancer cells after exposure to bisphenol A

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bisphenol A (BPA), a common chemical in plastics, exerts dual effects on bladder cancer cells: low doses promote growth and migration, while high doses suppress growth and migration. Multi‐omics and bioinformatics reveal BPA acts via MAPK and inflammatory pathways.

Incidence of Phage Capsid Organization on the Resistance to High Energy Proton Beams

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
The helical geometry of virus capsid allows simple self-assembly of identical protein subunits with a low request of free energy and a similar spiral path to virus nucleic acid.

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.
