Internal Plate Fixation of Comminuted Fracture of the Distal End of the Tibia and Fibula Using a Single-Incision Technique: A Novel Approach and a Series of Nine Cases

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Case Reports
Introduction: Comminuted fractures of the distal end of the tibia and fibula usually occur due to high-velocity trauma, and the tibia, being subcutaneous in this area, is prone to wound healing risks and complications.

Influence of Test Temperature and Test Frequency on Fatigue Life of Aluminum Alloy EN AW‐2618A

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of test temperature and test frequency on the fatigue life of EN AW‐2618A is investigated. High‐cycle fatigue tests are performed at different test temperatures and frequencies on the 1000 h/230°C overaged state. Both test parameters reduce fatigue life due to time‐dependent damage mechanisms.

High‐Temperature Nanoindentation of Metals: Assessing Thermal Drift, Frame Compliance, and Chemical Composition Effects on the Reported Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Do not let thermal drift and instrument artifacts deceive high‐temperature nanoindentation results. We compare classical Oliver–Pharr and automatic image recognition analyses across steels and a Ni alloy to quantify these effects. Accounting for artifacts reveals systematic softening with temperature, while Cr and Ni additions boost resistance ...

Adjunctive Uterine Incision Compression Versus Tourniquet Alone for Reduction of Blood Loss During Abdominal Myomectomy: A Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesThe Annals of African Surgery
Introduction: The effectiveness of the uterine tourniquet alone for securing hemostasis during abdominal myomectomy remains debatable; however, its combination with uterine compression though popular has very scanty documented evidence of hemostatic ...

Nondestructive Testing of Welded Composite Metal Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
X‐ray computed tomography (CT) is used to evaluate welded steel–steel composite metal foam (CMF) joints of two density classes. It reports variation in postweld spatial void distribution and correlates it to weld‐induced changes, mechanical performance, and failure within welded CMF panels.
