Coherent and incoherent trapped-ion quantum control in structured lightfields
CLEO 2023, 2023Spatially structured lightfields enable enhanced laser cooling and quantum coherent control of trapped ions as compared to simple plane waves. Integrated photonics offers a route to stable delivery, facilitating application in quantum computing and metrology.

Optical incoherent control of slow and fast light
2011We discuss our recent theoretical and experimental results concerning both retardation and acceleration of laser pulses with nanosecond temporal duration. The effects are obtained by employing ‘incoherent’ schemes, i.e. not involving coherent process such as, for instance, electromagnetically-induced transparency.

Demonstration of Controlled Spatial Incoherence for Laser Beam Smoothing
CLEO 2025A novel beam-smoothing approach based on spatially multiplexed uncorrelated beams is presented to control the on-target illumination from high-energy lasers, demonstrating scaling with the number of beams, operation with angular dispersion, and parametric amplification.

Rogue Waves: Transition to Turbulence and Control Through Spatial Incoherence
2019Rogue waves are anomalously large amplitude phenomena developing suddenly out of normal waves, living for a short time and appearing with a probability much larger than expected from ordinary wave-amplitude statistics. These extreme events have been originally observed in ocean surfaces [1] and, later on, were observed in other physical contexts, like ...
