Resonance‐Enhanced Four‐Wave Mixing Imaging for Mapping Defect Regions in Vanadium‐Doped WS2 Monolayers

open access: yesSmall Methods, EarlyView.
Resonant four‐wave mixing (FWM) microscopy reveals a spatial modulation of the third‐order nonlinear optical response in vanadium‐doped WS2 monolayers. This robust nonlinear contrast technique tracks the preferential accumulation of vanadium dopants along the structural bisection lines of the synthesized flakes.

Alloy Qualification for Producing Quench and Tempered Plate Steels with Extra‐Heavy Gage

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This study develops alloy concepts for ultraheavy steel plates (>100 mm) with ≥690 MPa yield strength. Through dilatometry and Jominy testing, the effects of Mo, Ni, and B on hardenability are quantified. A synergy between 0.5% Mo and 0.5%–1.0% Ni ensures core strength at low cooling rates, while boron microalloying suppresses ferrite and promotes ...

Four-Dimensional Quasielastic Neutron Scattering (4D-QENS) Analysis of Correlated Ionic Conduction in SrCl_{2}

open access: yesPRX Energy
Methods of elucidating the mechanisms of fast-ion conduction in solid-state materials are pivotal for advancements in energy technologies such as batteries, fuel cells, sensors, and supercapacitors. In this study, we examine the ionic conduction pathways

Determination of water permeability in stress‐free lipid membranes through time‐resolved small‐angle neutron scattering

open access: yesJournal of Applied Crystallography, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved small‐angle neutron scattering with rapid contrast variation enables direct non‐invasive measurement of water permeation kinetics and membrane structure under iso‐osmotic conditions for lipid membranes.Accurate quantification of water permeation across lipid membranes is challenging, with reported permeability values varying widely due to

Polynomial‐shaped electrodes for adaptive X‐ray optics

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, EarlyView.
A shaped electrode design for lithium niobate adaptive X‐ray mirrors connects actuator degrees of freedom to specific polynomial orders, enabling general shape control and the correction of defocus, coma and fourth‐order aberrations with a limited number of inputs. For adaptive mirrors on X‐ray beamlines and optical systems, we describe a strategy for ...

Towards an ‘absolute’ timing of biostratigraphic and environmental phases from the Saalian late glacial to the Weichselian pleniglacial in central Europe—Insights from a lacustrine succession in Lichtenberg, northern Germany

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
Palynological records are central to the biostratigraphic subdivision of the Late Pleistocene in central Europe. Yet many interglacial and interstadial phases—such as the Eemian, Brörup and Odderade—remain only poorly constrained in time due to limited numerical dating.

Lodge moraines: a common yet underreported end‐moraine type—a review

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
Lodge moraines are a distinct genetic type of end moraine formed by submarginal accretion of subglacial till; they are some of the largest end moraines in the world. Although underreported in the literature, they are of equal importance to push, dump and hummocky end moraines. End moraines are formed at glacier ice margins and show the extent of former
