Income effects and the elasticity of taxable income

New Zealand Economic Papers, 2017

Income-Share Elasticity and the Size Distribution of Income

International Economic Review, 1986
The paper introduces the notion of income-share elasticity as the limit of the share of total income earned by individuals with incomes in the interval \([x,x+n]\) when \(n\to o\). We demonstrate that there is a one to one correspondence between density functions and income-share elasticities.

We use variation in marginal tax rates and in tax bracket thresholds at which they apply in order to identify the substitution and income effects of tax reforms. We use a triple-difference estimator that exploits variation from subnational tax reforms, for which behavioral responses to taxes are identified e ven i n t he p r esence o f unobservable ...

Intergenerational Elasticities of Housing Consumption and Income

SSRN Electronic Journal
We estimate intergenerational elasticities (IGE) of housing consumption and income in the US. Using surnames to link 1940 and 2015, we estimate a one-generation housing-consumption IGE of 0.73, higher than that of income at 0.52. Housing consumption IGE is higher for White compared to Black Americans and higher in the Northeast, patterns that contrast ...

International income and price elasticity estimates

"Price and income elasticities are key to understanding how changes in prices and income affect food demand. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's International Food Security Assessment and Baseline models rely on price and income elasticity estimates from previous studies (Seale et al., 2003; Muhammad et al., 2011).
