When a block design is needed for controlling the effects of nuisance factors, but the blocks cannot be made sufficiently large to accommodate all the treatments, incomplete block designs can be used instead. Basic design issues of block size, connectedness, and randomization are discussed in this chapter.

The Incomplete Left Bundle Branch Block
Diseases of the Chest, 1963SUMMARY The incomplete left bundle branch block is an electrocardiographic entity, having well defined criteria, yet is a frequent cause of misinterpretation. The R>L septal depolarization results in loss of the normal left ventricular q wave, being replaced by an initial r wave. On occasion, the initial r wave component may be fused on the ascending

Partial Diallel Crosses in Incomplete Blocks
Biometrics, 1995Various forms of diallel crosses play an important role in evaluating the breeding potential of genetic material in plant and animal breeding (e.g., Hinkelmann, 1975, inA Survey of Statistical Design and Linear Models, 243-269. Amsterdam: North Holland).

In many situations the number of treatments to be compared is large. Then we need large number of blocks to accommodate all the treatments and in turn more experimental material. This may increase the cost of experimentation in terms of money, labor, time etc.

On Covering of Balanced Incomplete Block Designs
Canadian Journal of Mathematics, 1964Given a set E of v elements and given positive integers k (k ≤ v) and λ, we understand by balanced incomplete block design (BIBD) B [k, λ, v] a system of blocks (subsets of E) having k elements each such that every pair of elements of E is contained in exactly λ blocks.A necessary condition for the existence of a design B [k, λ, v] is known to be (4)

Circuits and Efficiency in Incomplete Block Designs
Biometrika, 1983SUMMARY This paper explains why numbers of circuits in the variety concurrence graph of a design provide an attractive measure of its efficiency. It is conjectured that the search for designs with an optimal value of the harmonic mean efficiency factor can be restricted to those with minimal numbers of circuits of shorter lengths.

The designs considered in the previous chapters, namely, randomized complete block and Latin square design assume that each block always contain enough experimental units to allow for each treatment (or treatment combination in case of a factorial design) to be contained at least once in each block or in the case of Latin square design in each row or ...
