A Vortex Method for Bi-phasic Fluids Interacting with Rigid Bodies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We present an accurate Lagrangian method based on vortex particles, level-sets, and immersed boundary methods, for animating the interplay between two fluids and rigid solids.

The impact of forced closure on proppant distribution of hydraulic fracturing in shale formations

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Research findings demonstrate that implementing forced closure within shale formations can remarkably mitigate proppant settlement, concurrently increasing the effective propped surface area from 29.74% to 38.68%. Abstract Forced closure is widely used in conventional oil and gas reservoirs to promote uniform proppant placement.

Numerical simulation study on the evolution of the temperature field and frozen wall in fractured rock mass

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The evolution of the temperature field and frozen wall under different fracture conditions was examined by an artificial ground freezing‐based thermal‐hydraulic coupled model. It was observed that fracture inclination affects the interaction extent of freezing pipes and fracture, while phase transition extent is the dominant factor for heat transfer in

Vapour and air bubble collapse analysis in viscous compressible water

open access: yesSemina: Ciências Exatas e Tecnológicas, 2001
Numerical simulations of the collapse of bubbles (or cavities) are shown, using the finite difference method, taking into account the compressibility of the liquid, expected to occur in the final stages of the collapse process.

Synergistic Enhancement of Modified‐PVDF Humidity Sensitivity via Chemical Adsorption‐Ionic Conductivity and its Application in Intelligent Powered Air‐Purifying Respirator

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
The study developed a PVDF/SiO2 humidity sensor with superhydrophobic properties and integrated the humidity sensor into the intelligent powered air‐purifying respirator (IPAPR) for breath monitoring. Coupled with the Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) machine learning prediction algorithm, it enables feedforward control of the fan to achieve respiratory ...

Effects of Concentrations of Water‐Based MgO Nanofluid on Heat Transfer Performance in Shell‐and‐Tube Heat Exchanger

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
This figure shows the variation of the total heat transfer coefficient of a shell and tube heat exchanger with different concentrations of water‐based MgO nanofluids at different inlet flow rates. The results indicate that the total heat transfer coefficient increases with increasing flow velocity, and at different volume fraction settings, the ...

Boundary Layer Meshing and Wall Functions Selection for Numerical Simulation of Solid–Liquid Two‐Phase Flow

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
This figure illustrates the optimal near‐wall treatment schemes (first‐layer height and wall function type) for solid–liquid two‐phase CFD of suspended sediment, which are correlated with particle size and flow velocity. ABSTRACT Near‐wall treatment (boundary‐layer meshing and wall functions) is a major uncertainty in solid–liquid two‐phase CFD of ...

Numerical Simulation and Analysis of Heat Transfer Characteristics in Gradient‐Porosity Foam Copper Composite Phase Change Materials

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
This study investigates the heat transfer characteristics of copper‐foam composite phase change materials with different gradient porosities. Three models with uniform porosity and three models with gradient porosities are developed to examine their effects on temperature distribution and melting behavior. ABSTRACT Phase change materials (PCMs) exhibit
