Improved Direct Ink Writing of Liquid Metal Foams via Liquid Additives

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
The ability to pattern liquid metal is useful for making soft electrical and thermal devices. Dispensing liquid metal from a nozzle naturally results in the formation of spheroidal droplets, making direct‐write printing challenging. Liquid metal foams containing pockets of air can extrude as filaments, albeit inconsistently.

Microrobotic Catheterization of the Ophthalmic Artery for Targeted Treatment of Retinoblastoma

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A microrobotic platform is presented that allows teleoperated and autonomous navigation of flow‐driven magnetic microcatheters, MagFlow, into the ophthalmic artery for superselective intra‐arterial infusion of chemotherapy to treat retinoblastoma. Extensive benchtop validations with patient‐derived biomimetic phantoms under optical and fluoroscopic ...

Experimental Study and Three-Dimensional Numerical Flow Simulation in a Centrifugal Pump when Handling Viscous Fluids

open access: yesInternational Journal of Industrial Engineering and Production Research, 2006
In this paper the centrifugal pump performances are tested when handling water and viscous oils as Newtonian fluids. Also, this paper shows a numerical simulation of the three-dimensional fluid flow inside a centrifugal pump.

General Solutions for Magnetohydrodynamic Unidirectional Motions of a Class of Fluids with Power-Law Dependence of Viscosity on Pressure Through a Planar Channel

open access: yesMathematics
An analytical study is conducted on unsteady, one-directional magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flows of electrically conducting, incompressible, and viscous fluids, where the viscosity varies with pressure following a power-law relationship.

Dynamic Pressure Analysis of Hemispherical Shell Vibrating in Unbounded Compressible Fluid

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2018
This paper is the first to highlight the vibrations of a hemispherical shell structure interacting with both compressible and incompressible fluids. To precisely calculate the pressure of the shell vibrating in the air, a novel analytical approach has ...

EMG‐Driven Telemetry and Inference System for Fish: Pose Reconstruction and Flow Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This work introduces an electromyography (EMG)‐driven telemetry framework that reconstructs body pose and infers hydrodynamic conditions in freely swimming fish. A custom 16‐channel archival system records intramuscular EMG, enabling deep‐learning models to decode joint kinematics, classify flow regimes, and reveal channel‐efficient sensing strategies.

Flow generated by slow steady rotation of a permeable sphere in a micro-polar fluid

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal, 2017
The analytical study of the flow generated by the slow steady rotation of a permeable sphere in an incompressible micro-polar fluid is considered. Both the flows internal and external to the sphere are coupled.

Modeling and Characterization of a Self‐Sensing Soft Hydraulic Muscle

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This article presents the self‐sensing soft hydraulic muscle (SSHM), a novel soft actuator capable of simultaneously sensing force and length without external sensors. A comprehensive model accurately predicts SSHM behavior, validated experimentally with minimal errors. Using propylene glycol enhances durability and reduces hysteresis.
