Incremental incrementally compacting garbage collection
Papers of the Symposium on Interpreters and interpretive techniques - SIGPLAN '87, 1987A mixed-strategy garbage collection algorithm is presented, which combines mark-and-sweep and copy collection. The intent is to benefit from the compacting and linearizing properties of copy collection without losing computational use of half the memory.

Incremental return on incremental investment
Companion to the 21st ACM SIGPLAN symposium on Object-oriented programming systems, languages, and applications, 2006Engenio made the transition to software product line practice in order to keep pace with growing business demand for its products. By using an incremental transition strategy, Engenio avoided the typical upfront adoption barrier - the equivalent development effort of 2 to 3 standalone products - which in their case was projected to be 900 to 1350 ...

Journal of Logic, Language and Information, 2001
The author addresses the problem of arriving at an incremental interpretation of anaphoric relationships in natural language texts (NLT). E.g. the sequence `A man entered. He smiled.' requires `a man' and the pronoun `he' to be coreferential. In standard predicate logics with their static variable binding mechanism one cannot get this interpretation in

Abstract Neither precedent nor principle nor reasoning dictates results. Judges must often make choices among plausible applications or extensions of existing doctrine. Those choices will be influenced by myriad factors, including the judge’s own policy preferences and views of the judicial role, the persuasiveness of the lawyers, the ...
