Residual Stress States in Microstructurally Graded PBF–LB/M Austenitic Steel Components

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines microstructurally graded 316L rectangular tube profiles fabricated via PBF–LB/M using a dual‐laser system. A 1 kW top‐hat and a 400 W Gaussian laser create distinct grain sizes and crystallographic texture. Mechanical properties are linked to microstructural evolution driven by processing conditions.

Batch-Incremental Learning for Mining Data Streams [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The data stream model for data mining places harsh restrictions on a learning algorithm. First, a model must be induced incrementally. Second, processing time for instances must keep up with their speed of arrival.

Managing structural uncertainty in health economic decision models: a discrepancy approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Healthcare resource allocation decisions are commonly informed by computer model predictions of population mean costs and health effects. It is common to quantify the uncertainty in the prediction due to uncertain model inputs, but methods for ...

Numerical Model and Experimental Validation of Composite Metal Foam in Protecting Carbon Steel Against Puncture

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The puncture prevention and energy absorption performance of composite metal foam (CMF) are studied experimentally and numerically for hazardous materials transportation protection. The numerical model implementing air within the CMF (nonhomogeneous model using fluid cavity technique) predicts puncture more accurately compared to the homogeneous CMF ...
