Flexible Policy Construction by Information Refinement [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
We report on work towards flexible algorithms for solving decision problems represented as influence diagrams. An algorithm is given to construct a tree structure for each decision node in an influence diagram. Each tree represents a decision function and is constructed incrementally.

High‐Performance 3D Printed Mechanically Interlocked Soft–Hard Interfaces of Hydrogels and Polylactide

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
In this work, a methodology is presented for the design, fabrication and characterization of soft–hard interfaces consisting of extremely soft hydrogel biomaterials, and much harder rigid polymeric biomaterials. This approach enables the production of interfaces with performances close to predicted values, with applications in biomaterial fabrication ...

Cost-effectiveness of nirmatrelvir/ritonavir in COVID-19 patient groups at high risk for progression to severe COVID-19 in the Netherlands

open access: yesCost Effectiveness and Resource Allocation
Background Nirmatrelvir/ritonavir is indicated for the treatment of COVID-19 in symptomatic adults with increased risk for severe illness, not requiring supplemental oxygen yet. From a Dutch societal perspective, a cost-utility assessment of nirmatrelvir/

Stochastic Gradient Trees [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
We present an algorithm for learning decision trees using stochastic gradient information as the source of supervision. In contrast to previous approaches to gradient-based tree learning, our method operates in the incremental learning setting rather than the batch learning setting, and does not make use of soft splits or require the construction of a ...

Shrub Ensembles for Online Classification [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Online learning algorithms have become a ubiquitous tool in the machine learning toolbox and are frequently used in small, resource-constraint environments. Among the most successful online learning methods are Decision Tree (DT) ensembles. DT ensembles provide excellent performance while adapting to changes in the data, but they are not resource ...

Wireless and Self‐Powered Wearable Pressure Sensors Based on Chitosan for Artificial Mechanoreceptors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A novel self‐powered wearable pressure sensor is fabricated using chitosan‐ZnO composite piezoelectric film, achieving sensitivities of 70.71 mV/kPa and 471.43 mV Hz−1. This lightweight and biodegradable device emulates mechanoreceptors for applications such as object classification, wireless data transmission, and gesture recognition, offering an eco ...

Confidence Decision Trees via Online and Active Learning for Streaming (BIG) Data [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
Decision tree classifiers are a widely used tool in data stream mining. The use of confidence intervals to estimate the gain associated with each split leads to very effective methods, like the popular Hoeffding tree algorithm. From a statistical viewpoint, the analysis of decision tree classifiers in a streaming setting requires knowing when enough ...

Colossal Terahertz Emission with Ultrafast Tunability Based on Van der Waals Ferroelectric NbOI2

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
The widespread THz applications are hindered by the scarcity of efficient ultrafast THz sources with on‐demand fast modulation and easy on‐chip integration capability. Here the discovery of colossal THz emission is reported from a van der Waals (vdW) ferroelectric semiconductor NbOI2 and demonstrates the ultrafast coherent control of the THz emission ...

hi-RF: Incremental Learning Random Forest for large-scale multi-class Data Classification [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
In recent years, dynamically growing data and incrementally growing number of classes pose new challenges to large-scale data classification research. Most traditional methods struggle to balance the precision and computational burden when data and its number of classes increased.

Design of Double‐Sided Optical Coatings for Space Cooling Through Vertical Windows

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, EarlyView.
Dual‐sided radiative cooling glass (DSRCG) utilizes the optical properties of epsilon‐near‐zero materials and ITO to exhibit directional emission toward the outdoor space, facilitating the heat dissipation of the glass, while exhibiting low emission toward the enclosure.
